You can buy memory sticks and install them yourself if you have any mechanical experience at all. You will have to buy 4 8mb 1600 mhz ddr3 sdram chips to get 32 mb. they will run around $400.00
I usually buy my Mac add-ons from
http://www.macsales.comMacSales, also known as OWC (Other World Computing) had lots of Mac stuff, including memory & RAID, with good prices & support.
For RAID, I use "SoftRaid" and external hard drives.
http://softraid.com . I recently had an internal drive fail. SoftRaid seamlessly switched over to the external drive and emailed me. I replaced the bad drive and SoftRAID synced them. No hassles. It just worked.
For more powerful RAID features for more bucks, take a look at Drobo (
http://www.drobo.com )
I go with
www.crucial.com as well. This is the marketing arm of Micron Technologies out of Boise, ID. They make good stuff AND you are supporting the home team for no more money.
ditto! Mac sales are dependable and their tech support is outstanding.
