Moon merge

A very old 35mm mountain sunset shot that I always thought would look good with a moon in it. I think I need to shoot a more silvery moon and play with it again though. Just wanted to see what it looked like.

Hi Mt... You need to remove all the dust specks from the old slide too. You could play with the moon before inserting it in the picture, and reduce it's brilliance some. One of the problems with scanning old slides, dirt and dust.

I know that too, didn't spend much time on it other than trying to insert the moon. The shot itself is nothing special, thats why it has sat in a baox fdor 30+ years, just found it today when I was looking for an old Grizzly bear shot. Thanks.

MT Shooter, I like the photo. I have added a few moons and I believe too that you need to mess with the moon before you drop it in. Color, intensity, contrast. All important. The size and location can easily be controlled by software. In PhotoShop Control T. Take your time. Do several variations till you are happy.

the moon has the appearance that it's actually between the back ground and fore ground dimensionally. if that helps for future testing

Thanks Chewy, that was the effect I was trying to get, resizing the moon for the distance perspective. Like I said before, this was a ROUGH attempt, but now I know how to do it and will work on making more believable images with this idea. I don't have many moon shots, but I have MANY mountain shots. I need to shoot a selection of stock moon shots before I can really play with this effect seriously, probably not until Spring now that Old Man Winter has taken over here. But I am liking the idea of adding the moons to some of my mountain shots. I also want to position the moon so a small amount of tree branches cover just a part of it, sort of a 3D rendering and it would add a bit of realism to the merge I think.

Mt Shooter, I took this moonless shot at EPCOT then added my moon shot. I made it extra big to give a storybook type image.

Or add dust specks to the moon to make it look more uniform!

The problem is the full moon is opposite of the sun, not close to the sun maybe less than 15 degrees different as this photo shows.
