So there is a pretty large photography/hobby shop in my town. I went there to price a few lenses for my Nikon D90. The sales guy asked what I was buying them for and I told him I wanted a faster lens for the weddings I shoot. He asked what camera I used (we had already tried several lenses on my D90) I told him "This one" He kind of looked at it in distaste and pretty much treated me like a hack after that. What happened to, it's the person not the camera?
I know there are much higher end cameras then mine but so far I have yet to have a bride unhappy with the quality of my work. I get nearly all my business from word of mouth but this guy made me feel bad because of my "inferior" equipment.
Of course I ended up buying nothing from him.

Stop talking to that guy and
talk to one of the others.
If you are moved to, talk to the manager.
Mail order is too easy to do!

I did, I just moved on but it was horrible how his attitude changed. I'll never buy anything from that place no matter how knowledgable they may be. I like E-bay, I've gotten GREAT deals on good equipment there.

Head just a little Southwest of you to Auburndale,Fl look for Marshalls Camera on East Lake Street. Believe me they will treat you kindly and fairly.

I've found a kind of funny attitude in shops in Orlando...not just cameras either !! Come over to Bradenton.....older population....friendlier !!! No one has ever looked down on my lowly Rebel XS !!

Stop venting, snort and stomp on the guy by filling a manger complaint. After all the guy is an employee and fodder for the client. To call that person an "horse's ass" would be an insult to all asses and horses (and to your avatar).
Thanks guys. i've been having a hard time finding a good camera shop near me. I'll check out both of those!

It isn't just camera shops that do this. It's unfortunate that this individual is even allowed to see customers.
Hell, a few years ago I was standing in line at a hot dog place and the guy behind the counter looked at me and instead of saying, "May I help you?", said, "Yeah?". So I just turned around and walked out and never set foot in there again.

Unfortunately I've seen the same thing from other employees in this store. My photographer friend swears by them but then he has a very high end Canon. I thought maybe it was just one guy but after this last trip......it's the whole store. Not gonna complain, (to them, they won't care) I'll just take my business elsewhere.
I've had two unhappy brides had nothing to do with my camera
Cameta(camera).com and B&H photo are two reputable on line merchants that have helpful and knowledge-able staffs you can call for info on the phone. Plus usually no tax and free shipping.
Plus I'd have given that salesman and his manager a piece of my mind!
I had D 90; a solid Nikon and very probably in the hands of a very competent professional.
I think I would have placed a new D7000 right in your hands while we talked about you upgrading your system knowing I wasn't going to send one home with you that day. But at that point you would have been presented a new horizon for you to aim for making it much more likely you'd come back for a bigger purchase.
This poor attitude on the part of retailers, especially camera stores is becoming commonplace lately. And so have the "Going out of Business signs" become commonplace for photo retailers. Multiply your experience by, say, 20 customers that were treated the same way in a months time and eventually being located in a city the size of Orlando will not be enough to save that store from closing. Unfortunately that was probably the manager of the place and most likely a frustrated photographer who couldn't find work in the field.
Shop with your mouse and credit card, put them out of their misery.
Don't get mad, get even. After you buy your new lens send a e-mail to the store tell them this is what you spent with a copy of the sale slip, after you were treated badly while you were standing in their store.
