I got the Nikon P500 for wildlife and scenic pictures. I chose that one because of the zoom. I wanted to get up-close with the wildlife without actually getting too close. It did what I wanted, but I wasnt happy with the quality of pictures. I would like to get some pictures I can blow up and put into frames. Any recomendations on a better camera. I've been looking at the Nikon d5100 and the sony a65.

Welcome to the land of hog!
If you can afford it the D7000 is a really good camera that you could grow into. No I don't own one but I can't recall hearing anything bad about it. Plus it's great in low light (high ISO). But... It all boils down to what feels good in your hand and has menus that you can understand and you can afford. Afford being the big one. ;)

Agree with Nikon John ! Many excellent cameras out there ...it usually boils down to how it feels in your hand...what features you are looking for and of course the big one ...BUDGET ! Check with a reputable camera store and talk it over with a knowledgeable person and I am sure they will lead you to the machine you want ! Good luck !

By the way, that's pretty cool that you got to fly over Crater Lake in a light plane. Nice pics.

I always liked Cesna 172's for a photo platform, the high wing stays out of your downward view. You just have to work around the strut.

You may have been in restricted air space flying over Crater Lake. Your lucky the jets from Kingsley field did not come out and shoot you down!

If it's your first DSLR, I would suggest a Nikon D 3100. Easy to use and takes great pics.

Thanks everyone. No, it wasnt restricted air space over Crater Lake. We started from Kingsley Field and checked on that before we left.

Don't overlook Pentax cameras. They don't get the play that Canon and Nikon do, but they get good reviews and are dollar for dollar a real bargain.
