The Red-bellied Woodpecker as an art form subject.
It was cold this morning and the older you get the sooner it reaches your inner core. Charlie the birder and I were on a quest to see something different. We managed it. Our faces went from red to blue. Not very photogenic but it was different. As we retreated from the bush we came across the Red-bellied posing for us in a most alluring manner. Charlie said, "You're cold but you won't pass that up." With stiff fingers I turned the dials and took a string of shots of this gorgeous male. His colours are stunning against the drab browns and greys of the surrounding woods.
When I sat down to view the images I decided that I would take several images, post process them, crop and frame them, to show the bird as part of an art form rather than just a record shot. Whether I succeeded or not is at the discretion of the viewer.

This shot was an anomaly. I inadvertently pushed the button when the lens was pointed at who knows what. In downloading I saw these wonderful colours and decided to use them as a swapped BG. May not be your cup of tea but it was fun to do.
...and another with the same back ground.
Really like your photos - very sharp and colorful.
Love the dark background ones and the pink tinted background. Darn good!

You know where I stand Joe. Sandra says these are most certainly an art form. And as we know, this lady most certainly knows what she is talking about.

They are all quite beautiful. Well done.

These are wonderfully, sharp renditions from a master bird photographer. I normally think of art forms as someone had to apply an effect because they'd botched the original (usually it's blurred), or wanted to see what a photo would look like as an oil painting or watercolor. You, on the other hand, have raised the ordinary to the level of art, and I commend you for it. Good on ya Mate!

Thank you Pierre. I get such a kick out of Sandra looking at them as well. That's gratifying. Say Hi to her for me.
