10 years past 911 . question? How many street photographers Have been questioned by local authoritys about what are you doing. why are you taking so many pics and so on. How many have been told they cant take any pics here . and been told to move on .
And how vigerous was the questioning . How many threats have been made to you ,as far as going to jail if you dont stop. THANK YOU.

The terrorists have won.

Threats of jail: none.

Questions about why I was photographing from police: one since, none before.

Questions about why I was photographing from others: up by a factor of 2-5.

But try flying...

Cheers,

R.

i have never been questioned, but I have questioned and been answered.
My friend was asked not to lean on the Memorial by a guard who said all the leaners with purses are scratching the material in which the names are carved

There are a couple of threads here discussing similar ideas. If you use the "Search" function and type in photographers rights you might find some interesting related posts

thank you Rocco, I have read this thread before , however I was just inquiring as to how many have ran into this problem (being that there are a lot of smart badges on the streets) and they are always willing to start a problem with someone or flex their powers.
any thank you .

K. I do have a "funny" story where in retrospect, I was rightfully interrupted from "going about my business". I was questioned, and held for about an hour (more like "asked" not to leave). I teach scuba diving and was doing "recon" on a new cove to use as a training site. I was in my wetsuit and had binoculars, my camera, and a SUV full of dive gear. I knew where I was but the proximity of a nuclear power plant about a mile away on the opposite shore of the cove was MUCH more obvious and worrisome to the officers than it was to me....After all, I had done this similar area orientations for years (pre-2001, of course) Funny now, but it wasnt that day.
My only advice is, respect the officer, be polite, but express your right to keep your images, and equipment.

Law enforcement people are out of control! AND those airport TSA people too! Thanks to terrorists or at least our response to them.

I have several friends that were instrumental in the installation of the plaques.
The cost of the engineering was astronomical to protect the finish.
After the fact, IMHO, with the exception of people tracing their loved one's names, I feel it should be hands off. I think your friend could have been a little more courteous, and controll her need to lean on a monument.
FWIT, I spent over 15 years working on the WTC, including 7 WTC and the Deutchse Bank Building. And,like many in the Metropolitan Area, severe good friends lost their lives that day.It is very probable that the officer who asked your friend to move, lost friends also.

As for the TSA, it seems that I am in my 70s now, don't know how that happened, but anyway. went to the doc and he said it was time for the ole colonoscopy. i checked prices, and decided - considering the expense - to just go to the airport. they got great images and I saved about $250!

Too funny... in one of my roles, I flew daily for ICE (fortunately we bypassed TSA). I found this "warning" on our plane that we all should wear when going through TSA checkpoints... ;-)

I was questioned once while photographing at a local railroad station, and the guard was aware that I was a retired LEO. He said their rules was no photographing while on the property. No problem if I wanted to use a good zoom and just stay on the sidewalk. I told him if I was up to something, I would just use "Google Earth", get street level views and save myself a lot of trouble. I continued to take photos.
