I am very tall. Is there a tripod (that I don't have to take out a mortage for ) that I can use for my non is lenses. I hate to squat just to use a tripod.
You need to state your budget really.I'm over 6' and I use a Giottos. Many companies make a four section leg on their tripod, and that makes for a taller tripod without raising the centre column.
B&H Photo has a tripod selector system where you can check boxes for various lengths. I found one that went to 99". It was expensive. Some cheaper ones went to 83".
How tall is very tall. I am 6'3" and use a manfrotto 055xprob with a vanguard 250 ball head standing straight with the camera view finder at eye level and have about 7 inches to spare. About $200
Induro has the CT314 that extends to 72.5 inches (manfrotto extends to 70.3 inches) for about $220.
Many here use the Manfrotto and I have no complaints with mine.
Measure the distance fron the ground to your eye, subtract 6 inches (ball head and camera) and that is the minimum height of the fully extended tripod you want. Get longer if you can, because the less center post you have sticking out the more stable the tripod.

There are several tall tripods on the market. Just look for one that meets your height requirement WITHOUT extending the center column to assure proper stability. I am 6'5" myself and use the Manfrotto 058B Triault for my longest lenses and the Bogen 3035 for daily use. I also have a Manfrotto 3258 which goes up to almost 10 foot tall for shooting over crowds or getting high enough to shoot large groups with. But none of these solutions are cheap, just tall and very stable.

Slik pro 700 DX Is excellent value
Check out a used vintage Tiltall on ebay. 72" tall and bullet proof but heavy at 6 pounds. Stay away from modern Chinese made Tiltall, poor quality. Priced under $150 and will last longer than any of us.
Best regards,

We are about the same height. Used to be about an inch taller but gravity as well as age has it's effects on us all. We can always rely on MT Shooter for the best advice. Thanks much
Induro make very good tripods and they are priced right
Don't overlook ebay--I have saved thousands on Linhof

I agree. Great tripod for the price. Better than some Manfrotto's.
Get a VIDEO tripod. I have one that will extend over 7 feet. I use it to shoot over a crowd that is seated.

Boberic, I keep returning to the venerable Davidson Professional, which extends to six feet and costs new about $135 from Amazon. It's rock-steady, made of aluminum, has all the swings, rises, and tilts via locking knobs, and will last a lifetime. It was designed by some Italian brothers in the 20's. Leica purchased the rights in the 30's. It has been sold by any number of names over the years. You should be able to find one...it's hard to miss the massive aluminum legs and swing-tilt top. If you are not sure you have found the right one, try Googling, or I will send you a photo via UHH post. Good luck.
