slow shutter speeds

In a youtube eos tutorial that was recomended here the tutor states that slower shutter speeds produce richer colors and more detail. With out regard to depth of field and freezing the action does this benifit come from a slower shutter and why?

Not sure I buy into that.......but to be sure, if there is a color tone compromise, camera shake and blur is more difficult if not impossible fix....and color correction, tonality, and saturation is a snap to correct. So shoot for depth of field and adjust later!

beats me......never heard this particular "insight" before hmmm I'd look at the source .... Ytube? Probably not the best place to get good information ya think?

Also, slower shutter speeds are an invitation to introduce "color noise" into even low ISO shots.

Shutter - I quit smoking (tobacco) about 11 years ago. I was never much interested in the funny stuff - worked for the police department.

Curious, post the Youtube link perhaps he has a reason that has slipped us by.

In film days the belief was that slower shutter speeds gave the film MORE time to become saturated. does a sensor have a Goldilocks exposure time? Not too little, not too much?

Film emulsions were layered. I.E. yellow sensitive top layer, cyan sensitive mid layer, and magenta sensitive lower layer. Extremely short exposure times for very bright scenes could result in not enough light penetrating through two layers to reach the bottom emulsion, causing a discernible color-cast to a positive or negative film. CMOS construction does not have layers, and I am unaware of color-cast due to extremely short shutter speed.

The test is done. I took six shots in aperture priority, using full stops: f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16 and f/22. Nikon D40, AF 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor, ISO 200, incandescent lighting. All were shot directly to jpeg, no enhancements, sRGB, no post processing. I did change the file names to match the shutter speed and aperture.

I can see no difference in color saturation in my test. Here are the shortest and longest shutter speeds in the series.
