Conservatives, including John McCain, are criticizing President Obama for shaking hands with Cuban leader Raul Castro at Nelson Mandela's funeral celebration.

Funny how they don't mention that then-President Nixon shook hands with Mao Zedong, or shook hands with Fidel Castro as Vice President, or how then-president Bush held hands with the Crown Prince of Saudia Arabia. And no mention of when the biggest hypocrite in America, John McCain, shook hands with Moammar Khaddafi. The same Khaddafi who admitted complicity with the shoot-down of Pan Am flight 103. If you want proof of any of this, check out tonight's Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell for the actual pictures.

So please, conservatives, just STFU if you plan to criticize Prseident Obama about this one. Your protestations are laughable.

How about maligning a whole group?

As you recently corrected someone concerning a word you thought was misspelled (you were wrong) I teasingly will help you here....it's President Obama, not Prseident Obama.

You're Welcome 8-)

Again, I find myself agreeing with you in principle.

Shaking of hands is more a diplomatic protocol than a showing of agreement and/or camaraderie. A refusal to shake hands would be a major faux pas, and is not conducive to good diplomacy, at least at that particular meeting. Nearly all political leaders, and most everybody else, shake hands of people with whom they do not particularly agree. I wonder what the reaction would have been had they done the traditional Latino "Abrazo"?

And I could not agree more about your assessment of John McCain!

I expect our president to shake hands with other world leaders, but what I didn't think was impressive was the "selfie" that he did. And Michelle looked pretty pissed too.

This is a great example of the Tu quoque fallacy.

Tu quoque is a logical fallacy that attempts to discredit the opponent's position by asserting the opponent's failure to act consistently in accordance with that position; it attempts to show that a criticism or objection applies equally to the person making it.

This dismisses someone's point of view based on criticism of the person's inconsistency and not the position presented whereas a person's inconsistency should not discredit the position. Thus, it is a form of the ad hominem argument.

To clarify, although the person being attacked might indeed be acting inconsistently or hypocritically, this does not invalidate their argument.

In other words....other presidents may have done this but that doesn't make it less deplorable when the current clown-in-chief does it.

Agreed. I knew obama would not make it through a diplomatic occasion without embarrassing himself and the United States. It's simply what he does.

It is very sad that our first African-American President will be judged in history as the most inept, corrupt, wasteful, subversive, destructive and divisive president ever. A man twice elected because of the color of his skin, rather than the content of his character---

We can thank McCain for his service to our country, but it stops there. He is no conservative, but what I now refer to as a DMAR, (Democrat Masquerading As Republican)!

As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and complete narcissistic M0RON."

Shouldn't we expect better from Obama, after all, you think he is better than any of the past presidents?
