Canon SX30 Zoom / Canon SX50 vs Nikon P520

Hello, I think my Canon SX30 may have developed a problem. When I go to take a photo and use the zoom after I have the zoom where I want it when I go to take the photo as I start to push the button the zoom goes in and out all on its own. I will reframe the photo and it does it again. The zoom does this about a third of the time and it can get very frustrating. Is it possible that I have accidently changed a setting or is it more likely that something has just gone wrong? If this is something that has gone wrong I would guess that it is not worth putting the money into it to fix. If I replace the camera the two that I am thinking about are the Canon SX50 or the Nikon P520. I would be interested in which you guys that know this stuff think would be the better choice and why. I should say that as I have gotten older that my hands sometimes shake a bit so if one takes care of this better that might be a deciding factor. They are very close in price on Amazon Thank you

Snapsort comparison:
http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-PowerShot-SX50-HS-vs-Nikon-Coolpix-P520

As I look at the specs on Snapsort, the ones that mean the most to me still point me to the SX50. One of the MAJOR differences for me is the HotShoe that is included on the SX50 and NO provision for external flash on the P520. Review the comparison, and then if possible get your hands on both. My experience says that the feel in the hands is quite similar, but the SX50 features win out.

You have changed a setting probably continuous focus.. But that is good as any excuse for a new one :-D. Or you are hitting that little button under your right thumb , causing it to unzoom for refinding your subject , they moved that button to the left front of the SX 50 . Try shooting your hand held shots at 1/640 sec with the ISO as low as possible ( watch your exposure meter on the right ... Match stick close to middle). about 90% of what I've posted here is with a SX30..... The 40 and the 50 has a CMOS sensor over the CCD the 30. The 50 has a longer zoom at the cost of a shorter range of aptiture

I agree, he's probably hitting the re-frame button by mistake. They moved its location on the SX50. Personally I think the SX50 is heads over the others, and is now my main shooting tool.

Hello, this is David. I was going back through some e-mails and I am not sure if I ever remembered to thank you for your help. You were correct that I was accidently hitting the small button on the upper right of the SX30. Thank you, David

Is the Sx30 still worth keeping or should one get an SX50?
The only thing I don't like about these camera is the slow zooming; you loose your target most of the time.
