I have found that when I order from Amazon, Adorama or B&H, and request and pay for the 2-3 day delivery option, FedEx will deliver to the USPS on the third day and I will not receive until day four. Also the UPS delivery is always put on the front porch, but the USPS individual just hangs it on the mail box in a plastic bag for al to see as they drive by. Dose anyone else have these issues?

My experience has been UPS an FedX handoff to the local USPS is for reasonably small packages or envelopes of small value. Larger high priced items suh as cameras has been carried to my door without a hand off. I dont know their policies but this is what has happened with shipments I have had over the past year or so. ;)

Yes, Fedex and USPS are never on time. I ordered something from Barnes and Noble and they sent it thru DHL (which is very close to being out of business.) That was the worst!! My 3-5 day delivery turned into 10. When I discovered they were going to be so long I ordered the same items from Amazon for less money and it arrived in less than 24 hours. I have joined Amazon Prime and it paid for itself by the 4th order I made (and it has other benefits.) I haven't had a problem since. It's sent UPS and on time or early.

My mail goes to a personal box at my local UPS store. It's like a p.o.box but it costs less and I don't have to worry about my packages being left on the porch because they are accepted by the people running the UPS store. They sign for any packages needing a signature and I know my items are safe in their mail area. They know me and know that no one is to pick up my mail. If the package comes UPS, they send me an email when arrives. When FedEx delivered a damaged package, they notated it with the driver so if there had been any problem it was already noted and I had excellent witnesses. Luckily, nothing was damaged inside.

The reason I have the box at the UPS store is because several years ago someone went into my mailbox an stole my bank statements and credit card statements. When I tried to report it to the post office they told me they were just missing. I decided I would do everything I could to not have to deal with the post office any more than is necessary.

I'm sure at this time of year with such a great amount of mail and packages that all the delivery companies are going to be behind and with all the storms planes and trucks are going to be delayed.

Both UPS and FedEx will hand off to USPS if that's what you have paid for. That's also the way that most low-ticket "free shipping" deals will go.

I live 35 miles from the nearest town and on a shipment that specifies delivery to my door the FedEx guy will always call me and whine about "where can I leave it in town?" The UPS guy never does. He will come all the way up here with a tiny package even if there's no one else up here getting a delivery. I appreciate that and will call him on his cellphone if I know I will be getting a delivery on the next day and ask him to hold the first one and bring it with the second.

(He also knows the trucks of all the ranchers and as he goes thru town he keep his eyes peeled. He's brought packages to me in the café, the barber shop, the tire shop, and elsewhere. He gets a bottle of wine every Christmas. I wouldn't waste a lump of coal on the FedEx guy.)

PS... UPS is ALWAYS on time.

My understanding is that most FedEx delivery folks either are or work for an "independent contractor" -- i.e., they are not FedEx employees. They or their contractor-employer provide their own trucks & equipment and just contract with FedEx to deliver exclusively for them. On the other hand, I believe UPS delivery folks are all employees of UPS. That could explain why you experience such diverse treatment from these two delivery folks.

Yes, the FedEx guy is contract and the UPS man is employee.

That USPS drop-off is especially annoying for me since I only get mail 3 days a week.

I am not saying the UK is perfect but our parcel delivery is excellent compared with problems you appear to have in the US. We do seem to have a lot more delivery companies than the US, sometimes I am amazed how quick they can be, for instance items ordered from QVC or Amazon usually arrive next day in private car or van.
Royal Mail (Parcelforce), Fedex, UPS, DHL, Hermes, DPD, TNT and lots more all have excellent delivery systems.

my son has delivered for fed ex directly for 20 years +- as an employee of fed ex not contractor. like most other companies they seem to focus more on the bottom line than employees and service. not like the old days.

It is all about the local hand off. It is good here now but it years to get good. I get CDs from amazon/Dallas next day if I order early. It is cheap but I would not do it with a large or high dollar order.l

Distance issues are a little different here. Geography matters.
