I have been reading all the post for weeks and I have really enjoyed it. I decided it was time to interact. I use a Nikon D3000 and dearly love it. Still trying to learn Adobe Photoshop (which is a task for time).. But anyways I love taking pictures of the outdoors and wildlife (people when they co-operate). I am working on a project for my mother-in-law and I have 1 picture that is really driving me crazy..I need it in a potrait not landscape, like I said me and Photoshop are at wits with each other. I have tried and tried to lasso the boy on the right and put him at the bottom of the left boy....I have failed...Does anyone have any recommendations for this? (by the way the picture was taken on a phone) not 1 of mine. thanks for your opinions in advance.

Welcome Norma. To lasso the boy first you need to saddle up your horse, get on it with a rope and ask the boy to take off running...the go lasso that sucker! :-) Ok that was not nice was it? Sorry :-(

To be honest I'm not good at the lasso thing myself but I've seen someone here that moved the picture around like your asking so hopefully someone will jump in and help you. Have you tried using the tutorial help on your post processing program or maybe you can Goggle it for free tips or help? Good luck!

PS Good looking boys there!

I did run after him on horse...He trip us up! J/J.

I guess I have used the tutorial so much, back and forth...forth and back...things start to run together and then can't even lasso that either....I can lasso the boy but after that I get lost with the blending things together...

Thanks these are nephews...I still got to touch up somethings on them.

Thanks for the humor and input.

It was just a bit tedious ... first of all use the pen tool and click pretty close to the last place as you go along .... no more than 1/4 inch apart ...
I went along side the baby mostly but once I got higher up near the head I switched to the oldest boy ... put him on a separate layer.
Then I selected the original layer .... but held the ctrl and clicked on the oldest boy layer ... that selected the area where he used to be on the original and I cloned the grass in that selection area ..... that allows you to get right up next to the babies head because it will only put whatever you are cloning inside the selection area.
Once I had that area filled in with grass. I expanded the canvas. You can find that in the image menu. I made it 1/3 wider. That made the room to move the oldest boy over to the left.
I cloned some grass over on the left and then placed the oldest boy down in front. I was kind of limited by the placement because of the original photo had his arm cut off near the elbow ... so I had to place him down where that was below the bottom. No big deal there.
The oldest boy had some extra stuff around him since I didn't outline him exact.. so I put a layer mask on his layer (hold the alt and push the add layer mask icon) This puts a black mask over that whole layer ... got the brush tool and made sure white was the foreground color and painted him in. Leaving all the rest of the stuff around him hidden. I filled in a bit more cloned grass but the house part was too difficult to guess what should be there so I selected the side of the house from the tree over ... put that on a separate layer.... flipped it horizontally ... moved it over to the left and aligned the bricks ....
Then merged all the layers and cropped it to the original size.
Piece of cake right ?? LOL
