I thoroughly enjoy the UH photography forum. It give me opportunities to learn more about photography and share ideas.
About the only items that I do not like, come under the General Chit Chat forum when it gets into politics. Whether it is about our own government or world wide politics, I would rather UH followers stay out of this area. There are other sites that you can voice your opinions.
I love the jokes, pictures and stories that make us laugh so lets keep those things.
Is it possible to change the rules and eliminate the politics in this "photography Forum" site?
If there are large numbers of us who agree, let's let the editors or web site developers know.

The Chit-Chat could be a great resource, but many members, myself included, avoid it like the plague. If I have a non-photo comment or question, I quickly post it there and leave.

There have been dozens of complaints about this section, and the nasty attitude seems to be carrying over into the Main area. We have had many people leave UHH over the years because people cannot act in a civilized manner. Give some people a keyboard and anonymity, and they become bullies.

Rules don't mean much to many people. Banning them is the only solution.

Agree. Religion and Politics don't belong here.

"Chit-Chat" is there specifically for "non-photo related discussion". Yes this includes the political rants of those expressing biased opinions. If you do not like that kind of conversations then simply avoid that forum. You can "unsubscribe" to it and never be bothered by it again. Like Jerryc41 said, most of us here for the photography information do that. Its your choice, so if you choose to view the garbage posted there then you have no room to complain. I have people on here who forward me the link to a good joke posted there and I usually enjoy them, but do not subscribe to that section of the forum myself simply because of most of the political crap and non-photo links posted there.
Enjoy the rest of the forum though, for the most part its great.

By the way, ADMIN will likely move this thread to Chit-Chat very soon as it does not fit the category in which you posted it.

I totally agree. I like the jokes and the "tidbits", but I don't like the political stuff. It gets down right nasty, and sometimes personal. Politics should be Verboten. I'd go as far as having the moderators delete any political statements.

Photography class has plenty of issues for arguing like Canon vs. Nikon etc... but to say that only certain other opinions are acceptable, that's what bothers me! Even in an instructor lead classroom, topics can turn to current political events making it difficult to stay on the topic of photography. With that said, we all have the right of free speech, and the ability to select the topics group we want to share with. To dis-allow free speech is a slippery-slope we all should take caution with!

It is a separate section. I like it I get to see the politics and interests of photographers. If you do not like it don't click on it.

I must admit I don't like the strong political statements made by some users. But that may be due to my own personal biases.

I don't like the idea of inhibiting free speech, either. perhaps there could be a separate chat area specifically set aside for politics.

Remembering that this site is the culmination of someone elses vision and sweat, they can adminster the site as they wish, and anyone who disagrees with their editoial policy can choose to leave. With that said.

I agree with you Jerry, banning the topic won't work because any poster can twist any topic into a degrading, hate filled diatribe.
Disagreement and criticism is not necessarily bad, but again you're right. Many people sit behind their keyboards and as long as they remain anonymous they are 10 feet tall and bulletproof.
Ban the actions and the people who are unable to interact with others in a mature, responsible manner, and allow intelligent and thoughtful discussion. The condoning of censorship is the proverbial slippery slope.

I appreciate the opportunity given to us by the site administrators.

THANK YOU

If I paid for a photography class, and a political discussion developed, I'd demand my money back. Sure, we have freedom of speech, but we also have common sense, don't we? Shout "Fire!" in a crowded theater and see how far that freedom goes.

As for the political "discussions" here, what is the point? Are people using logic to win someone over to their side? I don't think so. It's nothing more than an insult competition.

Maybe it would be in the best interest to completely get rid of Gen. Chit Chat and keep the subjects to photography. There are some very interesting and helpful posts about photography, cameras and so fourth. The posted pics are beautiful. My vote would be to get rid of Gen. Chit Chat.

I really enjoy UHH and have learned a lot since joining. However, it continues to amaze me why people would join a photography forum, but NEVER post or have activity in any of the sections related to photography. Repeatedly, when I look at some folks profiles(new subscribers as well as some long-timers)I find they've NEVER posted anything anywhere other than "links & resources" or "Gen Chit-Chat". Baffles me.

My 2 year-old grand-daughter behaves better than those in the Chit Chat room. I just avoid it - no real photographers there anyway.
