After seeing what happened in a couple of your threads, I can understand your question.

Unfortunately, there are a couple of individuals that use this forum for their own amusement (and make very few useful contributions) and they are encouraged by a handful of others that don't care what effect is has on those who seriously want to share information. They waste a lot of space, but unfortunately their behavior is not sufficiently egregious to get them banned. It's best just to ignore them until they bet bored and crawl back into General Chit Chat where they belong.

There are a few others that lie in wait and like to jump on any misstep and attack statements and questions from people they consider inferior, which could be almost anybody from their viewpoint.

You have only been on this forum for a couple of days. Pretty soon you will get a flavor for the general demeanor of the other individuals and you should be able to weed out the wheat from the chaff.

Since you are new to photography, your best strategy is to read all you can, take a course or two, buy some inexpensive gear and practice.

As for this forum, it is safer to address the question, behavior or the idea and not the individual since, direct discussions between individuals tend to get pretty nasty and waste a lot of everone else's time.

Hear, hear! Very well said, Scott! You said what I was gonna say only better. :)

Yeagerfamily, try not to let 'em get you down! I've only been here a very short time myself but I am quickly getting a "…flavor for the general demeanor of the other individuals." In recent days it would appear that a good long-time member was driven right out of the site by the personal attacks and general uproar. It's sad, and in my opinion shouldn't have happened. Don't let it happen to you. Sometimes you have to have a thick skin. Meanwhile I'd suggest staying far out of General Chit-Chat, and follow Scott's excellent suggestions:

First let’s discuss you childish behavior of starting a thread about me in the chit-chat forum and not being grown up enough to discuss your issues with me? I’m a grown enough woman to call people out on their BS to their faces. This thread alone shows how immature you are, it’s high school drama. If you are really thinking about being a professional photographer you better get use to people giving you feedback, solicited or not – not everyone is going to like your work, not everyone is going to be as nice about it as I am (no really some are going to tell you to your face that your pictures are crap and you need to throw your camera away)
umm I am in business (I am one of the few professional photographers on this board, by the way) and I do pretty good, good enough that I was able to leave my full time careers as a pharmacist in the specialty drug field and supplement my income with photography alone . My customers/clients are typically repeat clients; my average print sale is over $2,000. That is not including my session fee of $350 (non-refundable). I will be celebrating 5 years in business this May, my calendar is booked as solid as I want it and this year will be my second year as a profitable business venture.

I am passionate about photography, I am equally as passionate about protecting the integrity of the industry, if that means telling someone who purchased a black Friday special camera that they do not have the skill level or knowledge to be taking on clients by the 1st of the year, then so be it.

Once again, I suggest that you grow some thicker skin you are planning to enter the cut-throat world of professional photography, I also suggest you grow up.

You know what Annie if youre wanting to give advice and photography knowledge that's all fine and dandy, I came on here just asking questions to hear what people had to say and take advice from people and ask many other questions as I'm learning, I'm a grown woman and I'm not an idiot I know it's gonna take time to reach my goals in life... Why are you wanting to talk someone out of there goal or hoping they pretty much fall on there face... No business likes competition I get that.... Let me live a little for gods sake and explore the photography world.. Holy cow..Im happy for you that you're successful , I'm hoping one day I am as well...

Yes you came on here asking advice and you know what I gave you advice… being a professional photographer is more than owning an entry level dslr, slapping it on auto and mashing down on the shutter button. There is so much more to the business side of photography than most beginners know. Coming on here and talking about starting a business when you don’t even own a proper camera is slap in the face to all photographers that have invested time and money in learning everything they can about photography (this does not just include professional photographers).

I never hope people fall on their face when moving from the hobby side to the professional side, I’ll be your biggest supporter if you are doing it correctly. Actually I am mentoring a member here on the forum on boudoir photography as we speak.

As I said, if you are thinking of becoming a professional photographer I really suggest you grow a thicker skin, if not you are setting yourself up for heartache. You might think about joining a forum geared more toward newbie professionals, there is one I know of on facebook that is pretty good, they are open and honest about feedback so you better put your big girl panties on.

I also suggest you refrain from trying to lash out at people that are trying to help you and make you think before you jump in with both feet, starting childish threads like this is a sure fire way to make sure other members here on the forum think twice before offering you advice of any kind.
