I'm thinking of adding this lens to complete the range of lenses from Canon EF-S 10-22mm through the Tamron 200-500mm lens. So, anyone with experience with this lens please post your thoughts.

Hi Bill. From what I have read about it. Everyone seems to think it is a darn good buy. I have not heard anything bad about it in all my readings.

Yes! It's the only 24-70 f/2.8 with VC/VR/IS. Google Matt Grainger - That Nikon Guy - on YouTube. He did a four-part test of 24-70mm lenses, and he loved the Tamron.

Hi All, I have read every possible review I could find. I also looked on YouTube, one of my favorite sources. I was hoping to get someone with a real hands on experience. Looks like I may be that guy in the near future. Also, there is no way to get a better deal, since Tamron controls the pricing on all the new lenses. I have learned a valuable lesson about buy new Tamron products, and their warranty. 6 years is a long time to find problems. From my experience with Tamron they do stand behind their products.

Unfortunately, it's too new find a refurb or a used one.

Bill - I don't think you can go wrong with the Tamron SP 24-70 f2.8 VC lens. I rented one from www.lensrentals.com, tried it on my Canon 5DIII and was so delighted with the results, I bought one. It has been my everyday "go to" lens for the 5DIII since last spring and I choose it over Canon's 24-105 f4 L lens. It turned in some amazing fall foliage shots. In my view, it autofocuses as well as any Canon "L" lens and it is the only lens in this class which has image stabilisation (VC). It is also a resonable value; much less expensive than the comparable Canon II without IS. This is the first non-Canon lens I've used on the 5Ds and it does very well. Remember, however, Canon's cameras and Digital Professional Photo software will not make lens corrections for this lens, however, Adobe has a correction, reportedly from Tamron, which is available in Lightroom 4 which is what I use. Good luck.

I ordered the Tamron 24-70 with VC, and it arrived yesterday. I ordered it last Monday, from Adorama. The entire process from their store in NYC was wonderful. It shipped the day I ordered it, and the shipping was FREE. I tracked the order through UPS, as it made it way to my front door. The lens did get a good tour of the North East on its way to Louisiana.

I took a few minutes to register the lens, and apply for the rebate. Both of these functions are done online, through the Tamron-USA website. Since my last purchase from Tamron, they have introduced a new feature, called "Silkypix Developer Studio 4.0 for Tamron. It seems to be a Tamron High Definition RAW image development software. To use it you must download the software from the Tamron website, using the supplied software ser# and Key Code. When I shoot with this lens, I'll shoot in RAW and try it out.

Rebate? Rebate? Did someone say "Rebate"? I'm a sucker for a rebate. I'll have to take a look at that.

Thanks.

Jerry, Tamron is now having a sale on their lenses. Mostly the better lenses, which start with "SP" in their designation. The 24-70mm lens has a $100.00 rebate direct from Tamron. When I bought my Tamron 18-270 I got a $100.00 rebate, the check was in my hand in only 1 week.

I've been working on my sales resistance lately, and I think I'm going to be able to resist this offer. ;)

I only own one Tamron. a 90mm 2.8 Macro and love it. They don't have the same feel as the native lenses but your wife will love it when you tell her that you have some money left to take her out to dinner. here are two shots done with my Tamron and ring flash.

The Tamron SP 24-70mm Di VC USD, has arrived. I was delayed going out and shooting any photos right away because of the weather. The weather has since cleared, and I took a series of "backyard" shots, and am really pleased. I used the entire range, from 24-70mm. It was really bright out, so I couldn't use f2.8 but f4 really looked good at even 400 ISO. I'm planning on a trip to the French Quarter in a few days, for some Christmas Lights of Jackson Square, and will be going to City Park, for the Lights in the Oaks. Oh, I did download the Tamron RAW image package, and will take a few RAW photos and see how it is different from CPP. I did notice most of the Tamron package is a crippled copy of another companies product, called "Silky Pix". Silky Pix allows you to load the RAW image, do very little with it, but does allow Chromatic Aberration adjustment for the Tamron SP lenses. You have to choose which lens you are using. In the crippled version it will only allow the Tamron lenses. But, you can see, but not select Canon, Nikon, and a very long list of lenses. The program also lists, but not allow many image post processing procedures. Possibly, as these lenses come to the market, there will be a thread on this software.
