Sparrows were flocking to my bird feeders for their free handout and some moved to the grapevines and posed for me.

Check out the one trying to hide

Good set jwt.We had a shortage of sparrows over here for a while but they seemed to have made a comeback now.

OK, it's time to put a call in to Joe F.N. to tell us what kind of sparrow you have in that grapevine. I would hazard a guess that it is a immature white-crowned sparrow, but Joe can set us straight.

Thanks angler, we also seemed to be short on sparrows for a while, but we had a nice bunch migrate down with the first cool snap. Thanks for viewing and the nice comment.

Thanks Bob, and I'm glad you didn't ask me to identify these guys, I'm still looking in the bird book. Thanks for viewing.

Nice set. Try comparing it to a Chipping sparrow in your bird book.

I looked at the Chipping Sparrow, but in photo #3 it looks like this sparrow has a crest (white, yellow, or buff), which a Chipping Sparrow lacks). Of course, it may be just the way the light is playing off the bird's head, but I think it's meaningful.

Kaufman's field guide shows a (winter) color variation which looks similar. Without being able to download & zoom in it's a little hard to see for sure. Very few sparrows with the dark line going thru the eye.

Okay guys, I tend to think that the little rascal is a Chipping Sparrow also based on an internet search I did, but I would not bet on it. Thanks to all of you for the views and comments.
