Losing Employer's Wireless Discount Program

I'm about to lose eligibility on my 25% wireless discount from my former employer, since I'm retired now.

Do any of you hoggers have recommendations on reasonable wireless services and plans that retirees can switch over to. I'm still 1 year shy of the 65 YO senior discounts

Thanks. Do you have one of its plans? I've seen the commercials but wonder if it has the area coverage that it claims to have

TO ALL: This is a qualification to my original post. Please say if you carry the plan that you recommend

We have had a plan for several months. We kept the phones we had with att. They send you a new sim card for your existing phone or you can purchase a phone through them. Starting on Dec 13 they are offering the Iphone 5 series. You can pay cash or pay over time with no interest charged. You can also add your home phone to the package. We have friends and family all over the US and have never dropped a call. o to their web site and check them out. Best part is you can change you plan anytime and no contract to lock you in

The January 2014 edition of Consumer Reports has some good comparisons of carriers, plans & phones -- just got my copy in the mail yesterday.

Also, are you sure the discount doesn't apply for retirees of your company, as well? I retired 2+ years ago and had a corporate discounted plan (AT&T). Still getting the discount and no questions asked. However, if I were to switch carriers my former employer will provide necessary information to allow me to continue with the discount as a retiree -- may or may not be the same with your employer & carrier.

I am not sure on the company discount. If they do that is great.

I was in the same situation. I lucked out as I was able to change the account over to my wife's name as she gets a discount thru her employer as well. Only 18% as opposed to 20%, but it only amounts to an extra $4 a month.... Oh, & I robbed the cradle as my wife is 10 tears younger so we will get the discount for a number of years still

I have used Consumer Cellular for about 4 years without any problems. My wife uses it also. I am a light user but she is a heavy user. It costs each of us around $23.00 per month which includes all taxes.

How do you know you're going to actually lose it? Unless the provider is specifically told that you are retired or no longer employed, they may never know. Just sayin' ....

I recd an email asking me to validate my employment. We are able to join wife's company discount but I'm considering going with a cheaper plan with someone else if necessary

That's what happened with me as well. Verizon sent me an email asking me to verify my employment either via check stub or email. My discount was 20% but my wife's is only 18%..
