Recently I have been fascinated with "Street Photography" and to this end I have my camera with me whilst I sit outside my favourite coffee shop. I find it very difficult to point the camera at complete strangers and try to take side on pictures and have had 100% failure with this until today. I noticed this group of girls but one of them seemed to be dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of OZ.
On the return to their car I finally plucked up courage and shot a few frames and at one point there was this gust of wind and lo and behold this photo, which I thought was a real gem for me.
It has been cropped to the bare bones, loosely based on St3v3m's recent thread and only keeping the basic elements.
Unfortunately this was shot in JPEG only. Usually I shoot in RAW but I am currently playing around with various settings in order to check out the lens (a Sony18-80 f3.5 kit lens)

As a street photographer I think this is a an image to die for, the content far outweighs any other issues such as composition. If anyone says "you cut his feet off" you have my permission to tell them to take a hike. And in Ruislip too :-)
And I will add that critcal focus is amongst the things outweighed by content, sorry Gauss ;-)

A nice capture. I like your choice of crop - just the gal, and the guy checking her out. Nothing else is needed.

It does look like the focus is somewhere between the women and the storefront.

It was a fluke. I was really concentrating on the girl and hardly noticed the guy walking past who in fact enhances the photo.
Thanks.

That's real serendipity Phil, his head turned in the right direction at the right time. Will you be doing the lottery this weekend? :-)

Priceless. You were in the right place at the right time and you caught it! Quick thinking! I hope your luck holds and you get more great shots like this.

Steet photography takes a lot of courage! Maybe it will start to feel more comfortable as you do more of it.

I think that one of the reasons I posted this photo is that I was extremely proud of the moment of capture.
The other reason is a bit more long winded.
Basically I am just taking up photography again and want to learn more. My previous camera was a Minolta Dimage A200 bridge camera. I planned on getting a decent DSLR and my wife vetoed it.
I did however buy a Canon D5 Mkiii for my daughter for her Uni degree and I inherited her Sony A390 which this photo was taken with. I'm not sure about this lens (it is a kit lens). Is the quality of this photo typical of this lens.
I'm thinking of getting the Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II
Will this be much of an improvement?

Next shot is of his wife smacking him in the back of the head!
:):)
Couldn't be perfecter. Not only was she dressed perfectly for it but luckily for you she had her hands full. Just enough mystery to make you wonder if she had anything on under the skirt.

I'm now listening to Dandelion Radio :-)
And meant to say that it's not too important what camera you use but it must be quick, no shutter lag and fast AF, also a fast lens is almost a must.

You couldn't be more right. I told my wife about the photo and she thought I was being pervy in just taking candid photos.
:-D :-D

I was just intrigued as to why she was dressed as "Dorothy", her 3 companions were just dressed normally.

Absolutely perfect timing, Phil. This is not just good it's sensational. Graham has given you the accolades you deserve for this photograph and that's a gentleman who knows a thing or two about street photography. Treasure this one my friend. It's a once in a life time picture.
In answer to the Shutterbug. I'm sure she's wearing something under that skirt. From what I hear a lot of them are wearing dental floss these days.
