Tom, was it perhaps Tamron's previous 18-270mm that has no vibration control that was the subject of the review you saw? I've had it for almost a year now and it has proven to be a very reliable consistent 'walk around' lens.

Personally, I never get involved with mail-in rebates. Got stung too many times. HP is the worst. They always find a reason not to pay. Tamron, I'm not sure of. You takes yer chances. :roll:

I have had 2 very good experiences with Tamron rebates. They send an email telling you they have received your rebate information and an email when they mail it out. It's usually only a week or two.

Love their lenses, have three of them and had no problems with the rebates (or their warrantee).
