I much prefer the Before. The After image lacks spacial dimensionality and the sky is too grainy/dirty for me to really enjoy.
I think you will achieve best results if you treat the original image with some selective dodging and burning (to bring out and subdue different elements within the composition) rather than simply applying hdr effect on the global level.

Yeah, I am afraid that I don't care much for the sky either. I do, however, love the foreground in the processed version.
I don't know what you did to no 2, but there's haloing and the color balance is off in the sky and clouds.
Whew....tough crowd, tough crowd. I sorta like what you tried to do though.

Curious what you did. There's a ton of purple fringing around almost all of the branches on the trees. Also, the sky has a lot of noise (over-sharpening?) and also appears that the black point is way too high-- resulting in the gray to black in the clouds.

I assume you HDR a single shot, which does not allow for any manipulation/control of the effects. White areas tend to go grey, as has your image.
It would be better to not HDR but use the levels/curves/shadow & brightness/contrast & brightness, etc to get a more pleasing final result.
looks like storm clouds to me, nicely done
