Pictures often appear before your eyes, and then it is gone. One of mine is that of a waiter about to lose too many dishes about to be served. One that I saw - but no camera was a fat lady having just purchased an apple pie in a flimsy box. She barely reached her 'broken down 2 door, twenty year old Buick Roadmaster, opened the door, sat down in the front seat, her fat legs still on the ground, stockings about halfway up her legs, her short skirt 'serving little purpose' as she lifted the box to divert the liquid part of the treat to her mouth, lest it be wasted on the ground. In the background was a large sign touting WELLWOOD ORCHARDS - world's best pies.

Come to think of it, how about a forum about the pictures I missed.

A famous photojournalist once told me (as he viewed me carrying a large camera bag stuffed with a dozen pieces of eq.) "Robert, carry all that baggage if you like, but keep a point-and-shoot camera in your shirt pocket so you won't miss the great pictures"

There have been a lot of missed pictures---even though I had my camera with me, because I always see something interesting while driving and there is no place to pull my car over.

I think it's the bane of being a photographer...our eyes start seeing the photos regardless of whether we have camera in hand or not and we kick ourselves when we miss. I have, in the last year, been caught several times with no camera and decided that then I have to develop a better memory and download that one to my "Missed Photo File" and have my own private stash that NO ONE ever sees but me. Exclusive property and all that.

Yep, this is my issue! I live off of a highway and there is just no where to pull over!

Oh, driveby shooting with a digital!!

I leave my Panasonic ZS20 24/7 always ready camera on iA, smart auto. The photo shown here was taken from my car moving at 55 of a car in motion probably at 55. The Camera Club theme for that month was implied motion and every thing but the rear view mirror was showing motion. Of course driving at 55 in the rain, I could not compose the shot, rather I took three in the general direction.

This was a shot that did not get away. I carry a fresh battery and SD card just in case. I hate to think of the shots I have missed. I do not refer to these excellent cameras as Point & Shoot... rather they are 24/7 cameras... always with you.

EVEN AT 110mph THE IMAGE DID NOT GET AWAY

Someone far wiser than me once said "The best camera is the one you have with you."

I love your image! How you got it terrifies me, but I figger you're careful enough not to have a wreck. I hope.

When I was a student one of our mentors remarked that the ultimate goal of photographers was to "Load film between our ears and blink!" Digital I think comes the closest to that ideal, especially the small cameras and, yes, even    camera phones. We have today more imagery than ever before, utterly inconceivable even as little as 50 years ago (imagine had there been cell phones in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963). Most of the imagery is rubbish from an artistic standpoint, but as witness to history it is, like virtually all imagery, priceless.

See, my daughter teases me constantly about how I can't even go shopping without a camera. ( I don't mention the camera/phone she won't let out of her hand) and she tells me that as soon as possible she is having my left eye fitted with camera lens so I never miss a shot and she doesn't have to hear me bemoaning the fact that my camera is in the car or ...heaven forbid...I left it at home for the day.

So, as soon as that bionic option is available...I'll let ya'll know. Take a number and line up...I got dibbs!!
