Prefer Digital to Film

Now I remember another reason why I prefer digital to film. I bought an old camera from ebay, put a roll of (old) film in, and took some pictures. If I'm not going to waste the film, I have to take 24 pictures that are "worth taking." So, the camera is sitting, waiting for me to take another dozen pictures before I can have the film developed, and that will take several hours or several days.

With digital, I can take one or two pictures, upload them, do some processing, and I'm done. Ain't progress great!

I used to buy 100' rolls and roll the film into the canisters. I could load 5 pics or 40, depending on the situation. The cans the rolls came in were good for storage.

My darkroom was at the local high school, so I didn't have to bother with that mess - or lose a room of my house.

I still have two or three of the old brass with crinkle black paint Nikon reloadable film cassettes that were used with the F's. I think they are the coolest and best make of any I have ever seen.

I remember those days - sometimes, by the time you got to the end of the film the earlier pictures had faded!

I remember it took me a while to get over the habit of making sure the photo was "worth taking" before I clicked the shutter button when I got my first digital. :)

It's also good to open the digital camera and not worry about forgetting to rewind your film. ;) lol

I still use the digital cameras like my film cameras in that regard, but sure am glad that I don't have to stop to change film if I am really on a roll, and if I only take a couple, I don't have to finish the roll to see the results.

Digital also allows us the freedom to take those shots that we may have missed with film due to is it worth the chance or do we just pass it by and hope we get another chance.
I get my fair share of ones that end up in the digital file 13 bucket, but from those I try to learn what I did wrong so its not a total waste.
When I go out with my camera I don't mind taking several hundred photos but if all I get is 25-30 is ok too, its the getting out and doing what I enjoy and hopefully improves my skills that counts the most .
Wasted time, effort and images ? I think not.

If I wanted a picture fast on a new roll of film I would go in the darkroom and open the camera in the dark and cut the film I shot off the roll load it on a reel and put it in the developing tank then I would cut a new lead on the film left in the camera. I lost three shots - Dave

All of my digital shots keep ending up on the floor...oh, dang it, I forgot to close the dark room door...whew, that was a close one...lucky I kept the light on so I could see what I was doing!

When I first went digital some film users laughed at me. I told them that some people still had outhouses and were happy with them too. To each his own.

Only one of many reasons digital is preferred over film.

Another reason is the rapid turnover in cameras, so we can keep getting better cameras to take better pictures. :D
