The sky isn't so interesting and detracts. I suggest cutting about 1/2 of it out so it occupies the top 1/3.

This is one that is great just like it is. Now that is just what I think. You tell me if I'm wrong.

Beautiful colors, clarity and composition! I like seeing a lot of sky as it gives more of a wide-open-spaces feel and for me, helps with scale somehow. Maybe that's backwards but more sky makes me feel like the rocks and hills go on and on.

I really like this scene, which is well composed and wonderfully detailed. It has a little too much dark in the upper level of the sky for my taste, esp on the left, but lots of people do prefer that and that's why vignetting is in every software package. I would probably lighten it a bit or crop some of it.

Have you tried a monochrome of this one? The dark sky would play well with that and all that glorious detail in the lower third would be showcased too.

I love the way your image builds from right to left. You're always so brave in keeping so much of your sky. I like it. The colors are awesome. Now I want to make a winter trip to this place. It's so unique to see a badlands photo with snow.

How do you keep your hands warm shooting something like this?

I think you nailed it. While it seems reverse, more sky gives a sense of depth therefore infinitely more. Well said.

The sky is really moody in black and white.

You know, Dave/SD might be able to be a guide. It would be fun if a bunch of us could talk him into a photography tour. Seriously though, I would only be in if it involved some serious hiking, camping and really getting out to the wild places where the tourists don't go. I am planning to go out there this summer. I was going to go by myself because I don't know anyone that likes to do the kind of traveling on foot that I like to do. I can hike all day long and I would want to go with others that can do that too. It's why my husband won't go with. I am serious about it.

Cut out the sky? No way! I spent a long time drooling about the mountains and then when I'd sated my curiousity that grand sweep of cloud swept me up and carried me out to imagined vistas. Nope, no sky-cutting for me.
