Sad thing about this story is that they put the elk down.
I blame the photographer for this.

Yep. It is sad. The elk in the area are becoming comfortable ( and therefore becoming a danger) with people due to the public feeding them and the general interaction. People don't realize that they aren't doing the animals a favor by feeding them.

From my understanding you are correct.
I have seen the herd before. It was where Newfound Gap and the Blue Ridge Parkway come together.

It's a beautiful part of the country. As far as TN goes, we've been all through it, and not one part we didn't love.
