Can anyone out there help me. I have a 22" Samsung Monitor, nott very old, which I am unable to adjust the brightness. I have used my Spyder which is telling me to adjust the brightness, however, when I try the monitor shows the settings as locked.I cannot find a way to unlock the settings, there appears to be nothing in the manual to help do this.A call to Samsung is a premium rate number and I have tried contacting them by Email.

Hi Mogul Thanks for your quick reply. The monitor is Model No S22C300H.I would add that the disc that came with it did not include this model but I was ,via the internet able to download the driver for it.

Hi JR1 I have downloaded the manual, all 156 pages and can find no reference to unlocking the screen.Used quite a lot of ink in the process.I have tried Emailing Samsung but I get to a point where I have to enter the model and nothing happens. In desperation I posted the Hog for assistance. I have been back to aRGOS who will take it back under warranty so that may be the answer

Hi JR1 I originally called Samsung on the phone and did eventually get a link to download the driver but as stated earlier this was a premium rate number and I am not overly excited paying through the nose for information which as far as I am concerned should be available for free.I replaced a Samsung CRT with this monitor and wished I had never bothered. To add to my woes I am not very computer literate.

So you buy a Samsung product and are then expected to PAY OTT for help, a joke.

Note that your monitor may not allow for adjusting the bright or contrast under certain conditions, like having the PC hooked to it for example :-o
Hook that thing to a DVD player adjust the screen then hook the PC back up that might work can not guarantee it. Let us know

I would not know how to connect to a DVD player even if I had one. I propose to return the monitor to the retailer who if they want can try to unlock the screen but thanks for the thought

You need to turn OFF the "ECO Savings" (section 8.2, page 93) and "Samsung Magic Angle" (section 3.5 on page 53) and set the "Samsung Magic Bright" to Standard (section 3.4, page 52). THEN you'll have access to the brightness controls.

I bought a Samsung recently, similar but not identical model. I took my laptop to Currys before purchase and they connected the two and showed how to operate. I am afraid that the brightness etc is not a problem and can only see how to adjust resolution. But you could try this method after recouping from Argos. At least you remain in control and can refuse to buy until happy. Currys were very understanding, too!

i went to the Samsung website that JR gave you and got this message in a popup.

SA Series LED Monitor Quality Improvement Announcement April 4, 2012
Announcement:

Samsung has released a firmware update for Samsung SA series LED Monitors. This firmware update is for improved performance (better picture quality and PC compatibility).

If you have one of these models, Samsung recommends that you download and install the latest firmware update specifically designed for your monitor.
Caution:

It takes about 2~5 min. (depending on your system's status)
Don't turn off your PC/Monitor during the update
After the upgrade, the monitor will turn off by itself. The upgrade will be completed once you turn the monitor back on.

To download the update, click here.

It's possible that this firmware update may solve your problem. You also did not state what you use as a video card or if you use the VGA or HDMI input on your monitor.
Also you state that Samsung's phone number is a premium number, yet it's an (800) number.
I'd first try to download their newest firmware and drivers and see if this solves your problem. It's also possible that you just got a unit that has poor brightness and contrast. Let's face it, $130 monitor is not an IPS LED model but it should be able to be calibrated.
