my 7d seems to think an external flash is fitted even though there isnt. apparently its a well known problem witha lot of dslrs and is due to a sticking plunger which is on the hotshoe. its possible to fix it by removing the hot shoe plate. has anyone ever done this on a 7d
thanks
Bill

thanks for the reply, i have actually watched these vids but i am having difficulty removing that plate and as the vids do not specifically refer to a 7d just wondered if there was any difference or maybe i can push the screwdriver a little harder to lift the plate. just wanted someone to confirm that its the same procedure.

Use a fine wire paper clip. Bend about the last 1/16 inch of one end down at 90 degrees. Slip this into the mirco-switch hole under the hot shoe mount and wiggle the micro-switch. It will usually unstick.
