Country Mama,
I'm referring to Ivan saying he has been charged by 4 bears.

I've been thinking that if, my wife and I go back to Alaska, we need to visit your area and maybe hang around with you.
I'm rethinking the hanging around with you part......
Pat
I would love to visit his area and hang around with him, (actually working on that very thing with my husband right now). I will just make sure Ivan is in the lead. :-)
I've heard he can run real fast........
That could be a problem. I will just have to make sure we bring someone slower than me :-D

Brown bears are extremely dangerous, please do not follow my example. All photos taken in the wilderness of Southeast Alaska, the bears are of course wild.
You will of course post the picture of the bear attack when it comes. Please note I said when not if....... Alaskan Do not become a news item...... use the longest lens you got. BTW great shots
I am in awe...... wonderful pictures!
Wonderful pictures. I especially like the first one. I love looking eye to eye with the bear....since I am safe in my den and the bear is in the photo
That's funny...the things we do...

Ivan,
What was your reaction/response or thought at the moment, when the first bear charged you?
Can you describe the other 3 charges?
Did you do this on purpose? Suddenly, found yourself in that close/situation?
Just trying to understand. I've never talked to anyone who has done this once, much less, 3 more times.
Pat
I would take photos with Alaskan. He can use his puny 300mm. I'm going to connect my camera to my 8 inch refractor telescope and have a good pair of running shoes on and the truck running. Sure, I'll take pictures of him and his bears, not a problem.

I would stand back and call for help.

I am afraid that at this point in my life I couldn't outrun anyone.
terrific set! #4 looks positively menacing! you wouldn't catch ME within 15 feet of a brownie unless it was stuffed! though by most accounts they're not likely to charge "just because", i'd still rather not take the chance...

Grizzly = Ursus arctos horribilis, the term is used for bears living inland.
Brown bear = Ursus arctos horribilis, the term is used for bears living within 75 miles of a coast. They grow bigger than inland bears.
Kodiak = Ursus arctos midendorfi, a different subspecie.
The only bears native to the North America are black bears, Ursus americanus. Brown/grizzly bears came to the NA from Asia about 40000 years ago. There used to be about 30 different subspecies.
Thanks,Ivan.

You've done it again with your fine photography, thank you.
Incidentally, you list the Grizzly and Brown Bear with the same latin name. Are these the same bear?
Awesome Grizzly shots!! Thank-you!!
