Sooo, what does this do to all our sport fishermen??? Unbelievable!!!!:

Who knew a fishing rod was a medical device?

CABELA'S
Medical Excise Tax on Retail Receipts?
This is an image of a sales receipt from Cabela's, a popular sporting goods store.

The 2.3% Medical Excise Tax that began on January 1st is supposed to be "hidden" from the consumer, but it's been brought to the public's attention by hunting and fishing store Cabela's who have refused to hide it and are showing it as a separate line item tax on their receipts, the email states.

I did some research and found directly from the IRS's website information that PROVES this to be true and an accurate portrayal of something hidden in Obamacare that I was not aware of! Now being skeptical of this I went to the IRS website and found this!
Q1. What is the medical device excise tax?
A1. Section 4191 of the Internal Revenue Code imposes an excise tax on the sale of certain medical devices by the manufacturer or importer of the device.

Q2. When does the tax go into effect?
A2. The tax applies to sales of taxable medical devices after Dec. 31, 2012.

Q3. How much is the tax?
A3. The tax is 2.3 percent of the sale price of the taxable medical device. See Chapter 5 of IRS Publication 510, Excise Taxes, and Notice 2012-77 for additional information on the determination of sale price.

Chapter Five http://www.irs.gov/publications/p510/ch05.html

So, being more curious I clicked on "Chapter 5 Of IRS Publication 510."

And what do I find under "MEDICAL DEVICES" under "MANUFACTURERS TAXES"?

The following discussion of manufacturers taxes

Applies to the tax on:

Sport fishing equipment;

Fishing rods and fishing poles;

Electric outboard motors;

Fishing tackle boxes;

Bows, quivers, broad heads, and points;

Arrow shafts;

Coal;

Taxable tires;

Gas guzzler automobiles;

and

Vaccines.

We have been fooled again, if we believe that the Affordable Care Act is all about health care.

It is a monstrous law that will ration health care while bankrupting the country. It also appears to be a law with a whole lot of taxes that we the people have yet to be made aware of.

It is a political con to gain more control. It is also a method to obtain more taxes for the liberals to buy the votes of the ignorant and uninformed and those who want something for nothing.

I guess it’s just like Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass it to see what is in it." Well, what is next? What else is there we do not know about? Where is the press? Oh yes, it's in the tank for Obama.

Who knew a fishing rod was a medical device???????????

You cut and pasted this, you didn't do any research yourself. If you had actually done a little looking, you would have seen that this is totally false. Look it up, I'm not gonna do your work for you. And stop trying to take credit for something someone else wrote.

I just checked with Snopes.com and Cabela's and other manufacturers mistakenly charged the medical excise tax to their sales. I doesn't apply!

Not being an attorney, or playing one on television, this to me means that I can deduct these items that I am paying a Medical Excise Tax on as a Medical Deduction on my taxes. I guess I'll have to start saving all of my receipts, and become as dishonest as our government is. Fish On.

Crikey, would it kill you to just check something out before you pass it on as fact? May I suggest you bookmark www.snopes.com (PM me if you need help with that), and USE IT?
By passing on unverified information, you are even sorrier than the person that originated it, but you are both persuing an agenda of wishful thinking. Look, there's gonna be a lot of stuff that'll need fixing with Obamacare, there won't be a need to make stuff up!

LOL... anyone who engages in political threads at some point will be suckered in by false reporting out on the internet, I don't think that you have to excoriate the OP as you have. Typically people learn quickly to do a little fact checking before posting..... as far as wishful thinking goes.... even those who did not care for Obamacare and wanted to see it stopped are becoming nervous about the potential damage that this roll out has caused to our healthcare system. The dems would not allow the republicans to help craft the law, they would not delay the law when it became apparent that it was not ready, and now they have not only exposed the incompetency of the government to efficiently handle large programs in our society, but have also given us insight into the destruction that our government is capable of. Especially when politicians run wild with their dreams of redistribution and egalitarian outcomes for our society... It does not work, government by its very nature and structure is incapable of efficiency, and egalitarian societies lose innovation and efficient delivery of goods and services...

Yes, there will be a lot of problems with the ACA and it is highly suspect that it will overcome them.

No, not anyone. That sounds like something you'd hear from Fox news... Maybe the moral is, political commentary isn't for amatuers? I agree there will be problems, but I believe it can be fixed. Its a complex task...worth doing. Think back a few years--many were unhappy with the old health care system and spiraling costs. Until someone tried to fix it, now we all "love" the old way, where the rich can afford to remain alive and the middle class can just go off and die.

Fox News? Seems that you yourself have been suckered in by a bit of false reporting yourself.... I am not so sure how Fox News enters into our conversation but you have hardly said anything other than to try and discredit folks with a differing opinion from yours with the dreaded "Fox News" claim, which only discredits your own words, and deflection... Keep that in mind as you post, if you want to discredit Fox News why not bring some examples of their hard news division making false reports, if you are relying on their opinion programming I would suggest to you that NBC is an even more worthless source as they allow the wackos over at MSNBC to go off the wall crazy, and after all, MSNBC and NBC are the same organization.

Hey, I acccept differing opinions. I don't accept blindly copying and pasting something I read that supports my position, without checking its accuracy first. I don't accept promoting false information. Fishing rods and medical tax? C'mon--that isn't waving a red flag at you? It is sooo easy to check Snopes (at least Snopes) first, and it keeps one from looking foolish to one's fellow 'hoggers. How many of these "incredible" things
have turned up false under the most basic of fact checking? Why do you accept that people use forums like this to promote baloney? This has nothing to do with opinions. It has to do with being gullible, and it has to do with naively promoting BS just because it supports your personal point of view. This, for me, is the end of this discussion. I'm not gonna change my feelings about fact checking, and probably neither will anyone else, because tomorrow will only bring another post of a similar nature. "There is no accountability on the internet."

Much better stated, I think that the only reason your post caught my interest at all is you stated that he made himself look sorrier than the persons who originally mislead him, kinda piling on as his mistake had already been pointed out by a couple of posters...

Have a great weekend.

I'm considered middle class and my insurance cost went up thanks to Obamacare. How is this working. My flex spending limits went down (more money subjected to taxes less to spend on economy), out of pocket went up (more money loss on hospital bills less for economy), limits on what I can spend flex narrowed. Fine people for not signing up for something they "want". Really. If they want then why penalize them for not signing up. Having a college student who will be paying off a student loan in a couple years and having to come up with money for this I think it is bs. Wait a couple of years when all the rates have gone up for those people that have signed up for the insurance. How are they going to get the supplement money to keep cost down from me then? The middle class keeps this country going and dems and reps both hammer us but dems hurt us more. Someone needs to get off party lines and grow a pair stand up for the middle class and their voters rather what the party wants. Congress should be on what ever plan it is that they pass. This a government by the people for the people and they aren't any different. Their insurance shouldn't be any different then mine.

Thank you!!!! and lying (as the subject of this tread does) doesn't give credibility to anyone. Everyone of these fake exclamations of wrongdoing makes people more skeptical to believe anything.
