I just had a try at the moon with my sx50, a few minutes ago. These are uncropped, unprocessed in any way, and were taken handheld.
The first was taken on auto, but then I tried going manual and I think the results were better. One of them, I zoomed back a bit to catch some of the fence on the neigbour's balcony, just to give a bit of context.
Actually, the auto one is not too bad at all... The fence is barely visible, although I can probably do something with that.

Nice ones bloke. I bought a small 6" "gorilla" tripod and used it to shoot the moon (on a window ledge) with my sx50 on a 2 second self timer...makes a heck of a difference on full zoom.

Very nice shots. Amazing what you can do at 1200mm and antishake, isn't it.
