This article appeared in several legitimate news outlets including the Associated Press. This link is to a National Public Radio broadcast. I know NPR has a liberal bent but, no denying its legitimacy. Christians now have competition from the Aetheists.

I suppose that if you're a Christian, you wouldn't be able to understand.

Huh? I personally don't need any type of church atheist or not. It would be a great venue to meet like-minded intelligent chicks that are looking to have a good time, though.

That's basically what the article said about this church, that like minded people got together...on Sunday morning...and sang songs from the hippie era and good vibes for all. As a non-church-goer myself I thought it was a little odd too. If you are atheist why have an atheist 'church'. My thought about it was that they should stop being a copycat and come up with something new and different to promote their non-belief.

When did the AP become a "legitimate" news source?

I suppose while the Christian Church provides the great Hope of Victory over Death, those who claim no such Hope need all the support they can get. What a great gathering of existential angst!!

Of course Christians will understand. We have been there, done that. There is nothing new. Atheist have always said that Christianity was a joke. Now the atheist have a Church of their own spearheaded by two prominent British comedians. Now we can say Atheism is a joke.
An Atheist Church - you have officially become a religion. Welcome to the club boys, and do be generous as the plate is passed.

Oh! And please, try not to shove your religion down our throats.

Maybe one of the atheists will "see the light" and become a true believer in the God of Heaven, trusting in Jesus' sacrifice.

If that happens, then he or she will have a whole group of people as a mission field. He will be able to relate to their thoughts and feelings on an intellectual level as well as a spiritual level. There's no limit to how God moves to perform His miracles.

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out."

Yes. Maybe just get together for some naked water sports once in a while to celebrate the intensity of life.

I am not supportive of atheist organizations. Atheism to me is a personal non-belief of the existence of deities and nothing more. I don't feel the need for an outside support system to clarify a non-belief. I am not a golfer, so would I have to get together with other non-golfers to discuss the reasons we don't like to play golf?

Ha ha ha. So a few atheists represent millions. That's like saying all Christians play with snakes or all Christians refuse blood transfusions or all Christians drink cyanide when told to by their minister.

I think this all started out as a put-on by the two comedians mentioned and developed into a social gathering for non-believers. I don't support organized atheism but individuals can do what they wish under the law. Maybe something good will come of this. They may start to develop humanitarian services to help those in need as many Christians do which is probably their intentions. To prove that one doesn't have to be a Christian to be compassionate, caring and empathetic. The myth that Christian means 'good' and atheism means 'evil' may finally be resolved.

I find that a huge majority of Christians are very good people that care about others and want to live a life that is Christlike and charitable. A good friend of mine is a Deacon in his church. He visits hospitals to comfort the sick. He goes to hospices and helps bathe the terminally ill. He does missionary work in Cuba providing food and clothing. He works in the church's food bank. He and his wife teach bible study.

I always felt it is what you do for the less fortunate in life is what really matters. Not how much money you make or how popular you are. Being a Secular Humanist by description I believe human beings are capable of being ethical and moral without religion or a god. Actions speak louder than words.

I know I have been very vocal on this forum in regard to religious discussions. I really don't mean to attack anyone's belief system. I try only to respond when someone, no matter what religion they are affliated with, claims their belief to be true and factual and can 'prove' the existance of a superior being. The words "this is my belief" goes a long way and carries much more weight than claiming what's impossible to know as fact.

I admire Steve, Pepper, Bangee, Venturer, rpavich, Joyfullee, MisterWilson and others that have a strong faith and are more than willing to defend it. I am sure you are some of the finest people on Earth that would give the shirts off your backs (Joyfullee excluded) if need be without question. I would likewise even though I am an atheist and you are Christians. If believing in god motivates you to lead good, honorable lives than the end justifies the means. Certainly isn't anything wrong with that. If any of you ever need anything, financial, a place to stay, etc, just let me know. My door is always open.

Love and peace, magicray
