For our friends in the US, bonfire night is on the 5th November where we celebrate a man name Guy Fawkes, a Catholic who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament.

In the year 1605 in the UK, Guy Fawkes and his catholic accomplices attempted to blow up the houses of parliament and assassinate the protestant King James 1 and replace him with a catholic king. He was caught garding the gunpowder and found guilty of high treason, he was hung in Westminster in 1606. All across the country fires were lit in celebration of his execution which has carried on to this day. Effergies of him are made and thrown onto the fire.
Today every 5th November, it is a family affair with fireworks and a fire being lit in peoples back yards, also there are many organised events of which this was one. It was an excellent night with $35,000 being spent on fireworks..... :-D
Very nice Ed, Being a cheapskate we watched the display at the West Midland Safari Park, from our lounge window! L.O.L. Take care Jim.

I didnt go to a display this year but there were local parties every night for about n1ne days The 5th of November is no longer THE day.as a child we always had family celebrations in our garden on the 5th and found it very exciting. Beautiful shots really capturing the three aspects well.

Hi Trixsy, Dudley bonfire is the largest municipal display in the country... they charge £9 each to get in.... at least it helps keep the council tax bill down.....
