I was in New York City last week and took a few pictures in St. Patrick's Cathedral. This magnificent church was built in 1878 and presently is undergoing a $175 million renovation. There is construction equipment and scaffolding everywhere but I was able to get a few shots of some of the statues, candles and alter.
I used a Nikon D90 with a 50mm 1.4 lens - came in handy with the low light and no flash rule.

I am in love with number two. I enjoyed the tone, lighting, and angle. Very nice. :) #1 is outstanding. Would love to see a closer shot revealing the pinnacle. Great beauty in the colors. I also enjoyed the composition on the statues amazing detail. 8-)

I love doing churches with many photos done over the past few years....all in HDR. Wonder why the no flash policy when there is no service going on.
Great shots.

Great shots.

Perhaps not to disturb folks that stop in for personal prayer during the day? I am not sure this why but it seems plausible.

#5 looks like an icon from a Russian Orthdox church. You recorded some excellent images. Thanks for posting.

You are right....certainly could be. Doing HDR I never have to worry about flash, only people that will walk in while doing the shoot.

Abby
5th Ave is one of the greatness streets in the world. Along the way you have colleges, museums, synagogue, churches,Rockefeller Center, JEWELERY stores, shops, Madison Park, the Flat Iron building and more.
Don;t limit yourself only to the CITY. Try Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island and Queens.
You will be surprise of the other photo op. Visiting this great city unfortunately, you need so much time.
In the summer don't forget the METS.
