Can anyone help me please? I just took a photo for a Canadian passport that needs to be sized EXACTLY as above. I'm using PS Elements 11. I created the correct size canvas to place this image on but I cannot seem to get the image to the right size. It looks like the size of the tip of my finger by the time the ruler reads that size. I thought I had it at one point but when I printed it out it printed a 4x6. Agh!!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Donna

What size is the original photo? Is it straight out of the camera?

By George, just that question made me realize what I was doing wrong. I uploaded it thru Lightroom and converted to jpeg but didn't down size it when I did. After putting in Elements as a less than 1MB file it now fits on the canvas I'd made. I BELIEVE I just need to save it as that now and then place THAT on a 4x6 canvas and just cut it out from that.

Funny how one question can solve an issue - potentially. The proof will be in me actually accomplishing that! I'll let you know. Also have a wonderful Hedgehogger working on it privately, too. The forum rocks! Thanks.

Got too excited too quick. Can't quite get it, dang it! When I put in the measurements I need the image is smaller than I can even see. Geez! There has to be an easy peasy way to do this.

Okie dokie. Have at it! Dimensions I need are in the subject line. Remember this is a passport photo so like motor vehicle pics you're supposed to look like a convict! lol

If 1-1/4" is the width, the original isn't quite the right proportions to get the 1-7/16" without cropping. This should be the correct image size, now just put it into your "canvas" size. I used 300dpi for resolution.

If you haven't got it yet here is my feeble attempt. I had to crop heavily to get size. I don't have a printer to try it. Don't know if this will work

I printed your pic. It prints at 1" x 1 3/16"
I have been trying to sort it out too. It all sounds easy untill I try.

AND the winner is......this one!!!

Thanks so much Wahawk and everyone else who gave it the good ole college try. I actually printed them all on one 4x6 to be sure.

This guy will be so happy. He has dual citizenship but his wallet was stolen two years ago with all his identification and he's been trying to regain his Canadian citizenship for two years and they keep rejecting his photo because it's not up to Canadian specs.

Thanks again to everyone for your efforts.

Glad I was able to help. In PaintShop Pro I went into the "ReSize" function and set the width to 1.25. Then after the resize I created a new 'blank' file that matched the width and resolution, copied the re-sized image to paste as a selection into the 'new' file and adjusted the position the best that I could to minimize the loss of any of the subject other than background.

Thanks for the directions, Wahawk. I don't have PaintShop Pro. Guess I'll have to keep that in mind though. There must be ways to do it with Elements. I know I couldn't do it with LR because there's no way to create a blank canvas.

Anyway, thanks again.

Here are 2 addition versions. The first the image on the 1-3/8" x 1-3/4" canvas. The second is that image on a 4"x6" grey background.

Donna, I hope I am wrong but I don't think your dimensions are correct for a Canadian Passport Photograph.
See this link:http://www.ppt.gc.ca/info/photos.aspx

The dimensions listed are 50mm wide x 70mm high

The face must be 31-36mm long measured from chin to crown (top of head).

No shadows are allowed on the image or image background.
