I posted one of these on the S thread but here are a couple from today. Went to NOLA for work and this is what the sky looked like today.

I guess that is a "sheet cloud" or better yet, a "fluffy blanket" cloud. Never saw anything like that before.

Reminds me of an ice floe.

Nice shots.

Me either. It was very odd like a blanket blocking out the sun and moving real slow. But the sun was on top. I was on I-10 driving in and couldn't wait to get to where I could stop and take a shot

You might have discovered a brand new type of cloud! So glad you caught it and shared it.

Not that unusual up here near the mountains, we get these 2 or 3 times a year.

Awesome shot. The closet thing to a mountain here is the interstate over pass.

I know, I spent 5 months there after Katrina. Not my kind of place, but the food was great!

It's the edge of a front passing through. Check your weather reports.....bet the temperature dropped that day. Or maybe rain in the forecast.

Yes it is a front but here they usually come through as a thunder storm. This was unusual for around here.

It's an awesome example of how cold air and warm air don't mix into each other. I wonder if it was windy and as I look at these again I wonder, too, in MT's shot...did that jet have issues with the weather or do you suppose he was high enough to just skim over it all??

The cloud layer was likely in the 3000 to 5000 foot range, the jet was probably well over 30,000 feet, well above any but the highest thunderstorms. That shot was taken on February so thunderstorms are extremely rare up here at that time of year. The passengers were probably enjoying a very smooth flight.
