If you do a search on this topic in the search function you'll find a dozen or so threads on this topic.

Heads up, Carl! Incoming! (You're about to be chastised for not using the search engine on the UHH website or Google before posting your query.) I predict many replies to follow.

Uh, oh! A cardinal sin! How dare he disturb so many by not searching... :-D :-D :-D :-D
Carl,
It is something I've done (use the af-on or other name for it, rather than the shutter button to focus...takes some practice but I prefer it; not searching is something I do all the time...,).

The failure to search does not concern me as much as the grammatical and spelling errors in that post.
But to answer Carl's question as best as I can interpret it... Yes, I use BBF exclusively and have going back to the 90s with a Canon EOS 1n film body.
It's the only way to go for sports and wildlife action in my view.

Who cares? The QUESTION is the issue here. He didn't come here for gramma classes. I really care for those that use iPhones and iPads to post here because... Apple makes decisions for us that are not wise from time to time. After we press the keys, the mistake is gone! There is no way to edit if you wait for long to edit and... Well, it is difficult to edit on any of those devices that have hijacked our lives.
I see mistakes like that and worst--and I make them, too- and concentrate on the QUESTION. There are many reasons why a person makes those mistakes and I think, we shouldn't be so judgemental. If you want to give advise, don't humiliate the person and PM.
That is one of the reasons whypeople leave the forum. The gramma patrol. Having said this,if I am right, the AF-ON for Canon gives you a zoomed-in screen of whatever you are looking at through the viewfinder, with the idea that you can focus better-manually. Doe snot work on AF. There. I don't like it.

Do not call it bad grammer, it is writing in the local vernacular. I gots to lik what their saying, not how they says it.

I guess this shows that your question needs to be more specific!

Uh Oh!!! Better learn to speak English more betterer, like what Oi do.
;)
I use BBF all the time, I find it helps me get a sharper image and helps with camera shake.
I use it all the time on my D7100 -- have the menu set for that in place of using the half-press of shutter button for focus.
