Can you take film photos and just develope the negatives? I have a scanner for film and negatives..........If I scan the negatives can they be PP in Photo shop elements 10? Has anyone did this and if so how did your photos turn out?

A negative is a negative is a negative and yes it can be scanned and turned into a digital positive.

What is the real question here?

Most services will allow you to "develop only" "do not print". If one doesn't, just try another. Have fun!

Read his question....he's asking if a processor will just do the negatives for him....no prints...so HE can print them !

I do not know of any processor that that does not process only a negative. They prefer to sell you either a digitized version (under a CDzz) or in print. You pay for it, so why should anyone refuse your business? By the way the CD comes into a .CDA (If I recall well) that is/was of an excellent quality).

Any business that develops film will "develop only" if you ask. I'm assuming you mean C-41 color processing. The big questions are: how much do they run each day, how often do they change chemicals, how often do they calibrate, and how much knowledge does the person running the machine have? In the pre-digital days I processed student film at a local Eckerds that had a very knowledgable technician and got great developing. Now I only use C-41 and E6 (for slides) at the start of the year and thereafter my kids use the darkroom (B+W)and digital processing for color. This semester for my C-41 I tried the local drugstore (which bought out Eckerds years ago) and the chemicals were old; there were chemical color streaks across the negatives (i.e. they were scannable but ruined for any important work).
I gave up trying to save a few dollars and went back to the one photography company left in our town that is run by a man with decades of experience who charges a little more but only produces quality work. He can't always promise "1 hour"...it depends on the film requests and whether he's ready to calibrate and run several batches. I don't have him cut the negatives, just process and scan (4 base) so the kids can review and adjust their work to present in PPT. If they get a truly amazing shot they can scan the negative at a higher quality and get it printed for show. Before he scans the negs to CD he previews the machine's density reading for each negative and adjusts the exposure (he knows my kids attempt "spot metering" for backlighting, studio lighting , etc) and he makes sure the scan is acurate. So the answer to your question is YES, anyone running C-41 can develop your neagtives as a stand alone, but NO, not all C-41 is equal. You get what you pay for.

Not sure but I think you can also get most of them to do the scanning at the same time for a nominal charge.

I use Alkit ( http://alkit.com ) to develop my film (C41 process), they then scan onto a CD for me. Saves me time by having them do the scanning and their scanner is way better than the one I have at home.

The image of the chess player below is from a pin hole camera's scan.

The other 2 images were scans from my Leica's negatives.

Let the place that develops yer negs scan them too!

Try DALE LABROTORIES.I used them prior to digital; they do good work. Just type the name into your search engine.

Also try The DARK ROOM (same way) ALYN

I have done this. Just ask the lab to give you only the negatives.
I was developing my own B&W's then. They came out OK.
