There are so many these days.

Buy at least a 2-3Tb

That said I do like this, it is very fast and get USB3 if you can as the difference is great.

If you're going to use this for storing images, consider getting 2 and have one mirror the other.

I use Seagate, but if you read customer reviews on amazon, you'll find they all have similar good and bad points. I use Seagate--I have 2 500Gb, a 2TB and a 4TB--since I've never had problems.

I used to use external hard drives until lightening hit my house and burned out everything that was plugged in and the second time my house was burglarized. They took the whole system external drives, the mouse everything. Now I use Carbonite, fifty five dollars a year for unlimited amount and it is all automatic. Lightening can't burn it up and thieves can't steal it. :D :D

Seagate. I have their Seagate Backup Plus 4TB. See the link below.

In addition to my 4 Seagate drives, I also use Carbonite. Belt-and-suspenders kind of guy!!! :-D

Speaking of which, I wouldn't recommend getting the Mirror Drive set up with Carbonite. It really is only useful in restoring your system and apps if it is going back on the same computer. If you lose the mother board, which is worst case, it is of no value. all you could do in that case is restore the data files from the Carbonite cloud and reinstall all your applications manually.

I use WD but I unplug it after updates. I'm kinda waiting for my system to get struck by lightning. I have a surge protector strip with a $2500 warranty. My system is getting long in the tooth and I'm ready for it's demize. I hope the warranty is good.
