Good morning UHH,

Do backdrop stands come any larger than 12 ft wide? What do you do when you have a group to photograph that does not fit within that width no matter how much I tell them to pretend they like each other!? Standing on a ladder only helps a little. I'd really appreciate any advice.

Thanks!
Donna

You don't say if your indoors or outdoors, how many in the group?

Get 2 backdrop stands. You do not say how many you are talking about. Use your imagination.

Maybe do it outside and not use one. Or 2 backdrops

Just what I was about to say without the "use your imagination"

Wow, so many quick responses. I do have two sets of stands. Guess I could get two of the same backdrops and then overlap the two stands (one in front and the other in back and then just have a bit of editing to do to smooth out the overlap. As long as they're both far enough in back to blurr out it should work. As long as the room is big enough to fit them both. Hmmmm.....why didn't I think of that! (-:

Most recently it was groups of 25 cheerleaders. The final images just look toooo crowded to me. Just trying to find solutions before I run into this issue again.

Thanks so much everyone!

Not an option for any of the situations I've encountered - ie a financial services co and a cheerleading competition.

One thing to remember; if you blur the background...it can be ANYTHING and it will look good...a solid color wall....bushes....anything. The background turns into blobs of color.

The key is; camera close to subjects as possible, background far away.

This might help

Any reason you want a backdrop?

How about just buying a roll of seamless and layering it...you can get it in very very large sizes....but...I still say why bother? Find a large wall (gym? Cafeteria?) whatever...and get them away from it so it melts away.

That was a good video for posing but it was weird with a backdrop behind part of the group and a big movie screen in back of the other side.

I want the backdrop because the existing background is unacceptable. With cheerleader team photos we were in a dance room with mirrors and I had 5-7 minutes max to pose and photograph each of 55 teams. AND had to print 8x10's of each of them on site as well. I did it but it was extremely challenging and I always try to get ideas to do better next time.

Thanks for your input, rpavich.

I bought it with three stands because I use a 10 X 20 Christmas backdrop. B&H or Audorama should have them.
