Our Department hosted a practice burn in our community today for the local college's Fire Academy. And a good time was had by all.

Good coverage of the event. Darn...looks like a halfway decent house. Luv #10 (silhouette shot). Well done.

God bless our firefighters! ;-)

Thanks for looking. The house had been condemned, even though it looked good on the outside, it had a small fire about 4 months ago that brought to light construction and wiring from the 1920's. The owner decided that it would be cost prohibitive to bring the house up to code, or to have it torn down and carted away. He paid to have someone come in and take out the appliances and any hazardous material, and then will pay to have someone come in and remove what remains after the burn. These guys have a lot of guts to fight these fires. The radiant heat just about drove me to the other side of the street. And they do this in 100 degree weather too with the gear on. God bless them indeed.

Couple of things, first very good shots, Second I would make a copy and submit them to the department for training Photo's, you have captured some really good points and some points that should be brought up in training, overall very good set, like the LT shield that hasn't seen any real heat yet

Thanks for your comments. I couldn't resist the last shot. That's one of my favorites also.

Thanks for looking and commenting. I am making a disc for our Department and for the college instructor who also asked for one. I took over 400 photos from every angle and at every stage. The burn took 5 hours. Each instructor and full-time firefighter had 2 to 3 students that they were teaching things to. After each practice burn inside that had been put out by the students, pallets were taken back in, set on fire, and the next bunch of students sent in to learn. After that had been done, bales of straw were taken in and spread around with accelerant, and the final "major" burn started. I really enjoy taking these pictures, and the guys appreciate them also because they are so busy doing their jobs. Now I need to get a pair of old boots and turn-out pants to wear - it gets a bit wet and sloppy towards the end. :D :D
