lens problem

I was taken photos with my canon EFS 17-55mm lens this morning, on a canon 60D, when it stopped working. I changed the ISO to different settings and it would take 2-3 photos then stop again. I then put a different lens on and it worked. This has not given my any problems before, maybe because I was inside? Any help is appreciated at always.

Did you accidentally turn off the Auto Focus?

Clean your lens and body contact points with a Zeiss lens cleaning sheet. Do NOT use an eraser or other abrasive cleaner.

What do you mean "stopped working"

describe what it won't do.

After playing with it some last night, it seems as though I have to wait several seconds between shots. The shutter button does not activate anything when I press it, so cannot take action. Is this normal for the lens, or do I have a problem with it.

This sounds like a contact problem. With out more info it is hard to be sure though. Try cleaning the contacts on the lens. You can use a soft eraser from a soft wooden pencil. Just LIGHTLY rub the eraser over the contacts and then blow tem off to be sure to remove any particles left.

Sense the camera works fine with other lenses it is going to be a lens problem, and this is the most common of the problems. This is not that unusual especially if you have not used the lens in a while.

The percentage of charge in the battery, such as 30%, should not have made a difference. It is the voltage that counts and that should remain constant over most of the charge. Did you remove that lens and then put it back on while charging that battery?

When shooting continuous it is possible to knock the percentage of charge down quite a bit but it would really take quite a large load to slow a lens down like you described. It is possible that you have a battery that is going bad though.
