This was an opportunity picture with a pocket camera (the only one I had with me) and against a very bright sky. Needed some PP because of the light conditions. The birds fish on a lake several hundred miles inland although they are more common near the Ocean. The outer plumage has no permeability barrier and gets soaking wet in the water. This allows them to dive and have as smooth a surface as fish when diving and fishing underwater. When out of the water they they look for a good place to dry out.
Ooh Nice - Thankyou for sharing.
Looks like a family gathering. I'd heard they can out swim a bass, too.
Very nice. I like all the different poses in one photo.

Thank you. Yes, they are fast underwater swimmers, and I have read they can dive as deep as 45 metres.

Thank you. The picture is not technically very good, but I liked the gathering moment that I would have ptobably missed a better camera and a tripod.
You didn't miss the shot you had a camera.
I watch these bird fish/hunt as a team they line up in two rows first row dives creates a school/ball of fish in the path of the second row, second row eats.
Wonder what that top bird is saying to the underlings. Just goes to show you that you don't have to have thousands of dollars worth of equipment to get an interesting picture.
