Six or so weeks ago I ordered a JCC timer/remote control. It arrived the day after I left for an extended trip. I arrived home earlier this week. Despite being advertised as compatible with the Sony a77 it was not. The plug was for a completely different camera make/model. (A rectangular socket with a triangular pin pattern). Since I have missed the 30 day return policy with Amazon and efforts to contact the seller have been in vain I am about to resort to the following:
My Sony a77 uses a rectangular three pin socket. I am thinking if I cut the end off of my old remote and splice it onto the new cord do you think it would work or do you recommend against it?
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Ask Amazon to extend their return policy pass 30 days. They have made exceptions for me before.
Sounds like you have a Canon RS-80E connector. May be a Canon user would take it off your hands.
Thanks for the heads up on the plug. It appears that you are correct. They sent me the right remote but for the wrong camera. We are working out the details for an exchange.
