Good morning UHH!!

I have a job on Sunday photographing cheer leading teams and I'm going to need to print out 50 team photos on the spot. I currently have an Epson Artisan 730 that I don't think will fill the bill. It jams a lot and I'm not really happy with the printing quality. That COULD be because I haven't been using Epson paper.

Do any of you have recommendations for a printer that can handle photo paper without incessantly jamming? And that has great print quality?

Thanks in advance for sharing your great knowledge.

People perhaps still confuse spending a lot with quality.

I use the Canon MG5350 which is a permanent fixture in the back of my car, with an 800w inverter and laptop for printing on site at location.

It also prints DVD/CDs so I offer personal items at events

I also have an old IX4000.

Neither have ever seen Canon paper only 3rd party including Ink from 7day shop.

Do not underestimate the quality from good Canons.

Also remember Epson have not initiated incompatibility with 3rd party papers and inks by adding a sub routine to the firmware upgrades so 3rd party does not work, hence people now getting Canons.

JR1. Been meanint to ask. Is your inverter a pure sine wave inverter, or a modified sine wave? From what I've been reading, everyone says that the pure sine wave is needed, even for making a studio strobe travel kit. (we sometimes have trouble finding outlets) Wondered what you use, and how much difference it makes, (especially with monolights, but even printers might requre it from time to time)

As for OP. I love my epson workforce. So far, knock on wood, no jams. Quality is great as long as I remember to keep printing at least once a week. (Killed my old HP by letting the jets get plugged, tried several times to clear...no good)

Hope this helps.

Thanks, JR1. I'll look into it.

WF-7510 Does up to 13s19 prints.

Have done several events with it. I only use Epson Ink, and epson paper. I've read that HP paper costs less, but epson inks don't like it much.

I've been using a modified sine wave inverter in my motorhome for about 10 years. It works fine for anything with a motor like a vacuum or drill. It works fine for anything with a brick power supply or charger like a laptop or cell phone. It has NOT worked well for anything with a timer circuit. I have a Canon iP90 portable printer with a power brick and use it without problem. My Canon Pixma Pro-100 does not have a power brick and I will not plug it in to the inverter.

My inverter has also killed a nice automatic espresso maker.

Spend the extra to get a pure sine wave inverter.

Donna,

The best deal right now is a Canon Pixma Pro-100. B&H is selling it for $400 with a $300 rebate. List price is $500.
The rebated deal includes 50 sheets of 13x19 Canon paper.

So for $100 you get printer, ink and paper. It's big, heavy and rugged.

I have one and am thrilled with print quality and sturdiness.

You're welcome.

The hard part is the backup ink. It uses 8 cartridges at $17 each. Ink cost per print is probably about the same as every other printer.

I read about a guy who bought two printers for $100. The second was for the paper and backup ink supply. He intended to get rid of the second printer itself. (The rebate is only once per person. He had a friend by the second printer for him.)

I finally decided to buy one full set for a shelf supply. Now, when I need to replace one, I order it from Amazon with free "Prime" 2 day delivery to my front door.

Hmmmm, that's an interesting solution, bsprague. Has me thinking. I'm also wondering if CISS is a solution for ink for that Canon. I'll have to research. If anyone knows....please chime in.

According to the reviews the Canon Pixma Pro 100 is twice as fast as the one JR1 recommended but also more expensive as far as ink goes. I admit to being torn between the two but that $300 rebate is pretty hard to ignore, even though it's in the form of an American Express reward card.

fyi about the ink....

There's a CSSI system in the works for the Canon Pixma Pro 100. Won't be in time for this cheer leading event I'm shooting on Sunday but at least I know it's coming. Just announced on the 15th.

Bill,
Do you have to purchase additional paper with the printer to get the $300 rebate? According to the rebate form it's $200 rebate for just the printer.
Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bill,

Photo paper was included free with the order. I decided not to order my smaller size paper from B&H. Hope I didn't make a huge mistake. I'm looking for economical ink now. Found some for $80 something and then at the last minute before ordering I decided to do a search on the company and it appears to be a scam so I erased all my info and closed the page.
