It's not easy but it's basically a scaled down version of PS. As I said, I looked at PS and had a feeling I would never make use of the full program. I downloaded Elements 9 Trial Version, watched the on line videos, and got a handle on it in a few months ! If I ever decide to buy PS, I'll have a good jump on it !!! I liked spending $79.00 versus 100's for PS also !

I don't know what psp is. I do think most hobbyists would be well-served by Lightroom and Photoshop Elements. Photoshop is almost $700.00 and if Adobe stays with their pricing plan , you will HAVE to upgrade every 18 months (or so) if you want to stay current - no skipping upgrades.
Photoshop can take a few years and lots of practice to become reasonably proficient. Much of it is for graphic designers and of no use to us.
Lightroom does a great job for most folks for less money and is far easier to learn.

I have cs5,pre release of cs6, gimp,elements 10,perfect photo suite 6,and picasa LOL.
They all have their limitations. Doesn't really matter which one you decide to go with...

Elements is VERY limited next to Photoshop, but as photogrl57 says, they all have their limitations. I use Photoshop and Lightroom, but there are plenty of things I can do in Photoshop 4 that I can't do in Elements 9.

Cheers,

R.

I have gimp, so rather than spend more money on another pp program I am going to learn it until I need more, I need to get a few things for my camera first that are more important I think, a good flash instead of the lil pop up, a tripod, ,,that along with much much practice will help I am sure,,thanks for all the feed back,,I just found out a local photo shop here gives lessons thats an option I am going to look into as well,,

VERY wise -- but I hope you realize that you are subverting the entire consumer ethos by behaving rationally!

Cheers,

The best thing to do is learn how to take better photos so they don't require so much Photo shop n!
