These are the granddaughters on one of the rare occasions that I could get them to hold still.Any help would be appreciated.

On my screen they have an overall red appearance, rather than natural skin colour

The poses are nice

They appear to be out of focus or too soft

I think you have done a very good job with these images. It looks like to me your white balance is off a bit. You have some pretty granddaughters.

I agree with JR1.....focus appears to be in front of the subjects.

Thank you JR1, not that good with the editing program that I have (Light Room 5), though I can probably clean some of that up. Thank you for taking the time to reply, and for the help.

I wonder if I could have been too close to the subject?? The room I took these in is small.

Nice kids. Could use a hair light to separate them from the background.

If you set the focus area to a single center point you can half press on the eyes then re-frame to make sure you get the face/eyes in the sharpest focus. If it focused in front of their faces you were not to close for the lens to focus.
Good luck on your continued portrait work. :)

Google portrait lighting. There are some very good diagrams and explanations to help simplify and demystify this very difficult and confusing aspect of our art.
