Hello,
I basically got interested in photography about 4 years ago. I love it. Just like most of y'all, I wish I had more money for my hobby. I have a Canon 40D and have 4 lenses. My latest purchase was a macro lens. Having a ball with it.
I live in Virginia in a small town in the western part in the mountains. Gorgeous scenery for photographing!!
Thank you...
Hi,Joan.....Welcome to the site......have fun
Thank you so much for the welcome. I am sure I will have a great time.
Joanie
Can't say I have seen much of that part of the US except right around the DC area which you may not claim - but I understand there is some pretty country there. Will be looking forward to what you care to share.
Welcome aboard, Joan.
One of my best friends, and his father, are from Norton; his mother is from near Clintwood. Anywhere close?
Welcome Joan.... Virginia is a beautiful state. Post some local shots when you can....
Mike
welcome the the group. like the others I look forward to seeing some shots of the scenery there.
Hi Joan - welcome. I lived near Lynchburg, Va for 6 years - 1999 to 2005 - liked it there BUT hated the humidity!! Worked for Transworld Connections then for JCrew when Transworld went under. Got started with photography in 2002 up on the Blue Ridge Mtns with a Canon Rebel 35mm. Graduated to a Canon XTi Rebel digital when I came back to NY in April of 2006. Love the camera and still use it.
You'll like this site - very helpful.
Hi, Charlie...
Norton is in the far southwest part of Virginia in coal country. I live in the western part. If you know where Lexington, VA is, I live 30 minutes west of there. Lexington is where Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee Universities are. General Robert E. Lee, the head of the Confederate army, is buried there.
I have lived here all my life and would hate to leave it. The mountains give you such a protected feeling. Preston, you are right, the humidity can get up there with all the trees, but you get used to it. We live on the Cowpasture River considered one of the cleanest rivers in Virginia, so we get our fair share of the humidity. LOL. Thank you, Mike, I agree VA is a gorgeous state from the mountains to the piedmont to the eastern shore. Each state in the U.S. is beautiful in different ways.
Also thanks for the welcome, NotnoBuddha and Rick.
Thank you for the welcome,
Joanie
OK - I know about where you are. I'm familiar with SW Va - went there for a few days with him, but a long time ago.
Hi Joan. Welcome and I know you will enjoy UHH. I currently live in your capitol city and spent some great years in the western part of the state in the little town of Blacksburg.
That is great. Blacksburg is an experience, isn't it? Did you attend Virginia Tech? The Hokies are doing great again this year. LOL!!
Hugs, Joanie

Yes Blacksburg was a lot of fun and I don't know how but I did graduate from VT. Football season provides quite a lot of photo opps but I have found it somewhat cumbersome to carry my D3100 along; so usually carry a small Sony P&S.
Great Pic!!!! Do you get back very often to see any games?
Joanie
Welcome to the Hog Joanie!
Post some pictures of your gorgeous scenery. ;)
I have been to Virginia, it's a beautiful state.
