Hello fellow hoggers, I purchased this kit from a old friend it was brand new with two lights, four stands, two black umbrellas with white reflective undersides and a set of wedding gels in case. Problem, I don't know how to use them. I've tried to find a book on this but have been unsuccessful. I know there are some old schoolers who are familiar with these. Please advise me on what and how to use.

Flashpoint 1200 (NO space between Flash and point)

There are other sites, but I couldn't find a manual anywhere. However, with Adorama listing one, I wonder if they can give you information on usage, or on manual?

Adorama sells some products labelled flashpoint as their own brand. You might have some luck contacting them and see if they are connected at all. Good luck.

Thanks olcoach It is from adorama I found a tri-fold in the pocket that said instructions but after reading them it's clear that it's written for someone who is familiar with using them. It has three modes continuous light, modeling lights and can be used as a slave flash. Setting the light levels, attaching and using the gels, using the umbrellas, positioning! all of these questions and more are the things I'd like to learn. Seems to be more than I need but I can't afford to replace it with something easier. Weird I know.

Thanks for your response Esther. I checked those sites earlier and there newer models. Just though some of the more seasoned Hoggers may have used them before. Guess I'll be playing with them a lot and try to figure it out.

From the control panel, it appears that you have an older model in good shape. Maybe you can go to a local studio and find some help. Adorama is an authorized dealer; give them a call at 800-223-2500. I am going to Pardee's tomorrow; I'll ask some of the reps then and post whatever I find tomorrow night.

I have never used these specific units, but I've used a lot of studio what-we-called "speedlights," so I'll give you what I have so far and ask you to continue asking away once you've seen my notes. Like I'm sure everyone else has, I've Giggled to try to find a manual and it's no go, but I bet I could figure these out if I had them in my hands, so let's try it this way and see if we can cobble something together. :-)

By the way, if you have more questions, please also take more pictures and include the originals. It was great to be able to enlarge these first two and study them, plus add notes. :-) Oh, and BTW, it's too early yet to try to tell you how to use them in a setup. I think we need to get 'em working first, then go to the next step.

I just found this above:

You bought something you no clue as to how to use. You have to understand light first. Can it be connected to your camera? What are you going to use it for? All the answers you get here will not help.

Yours are the least helpful! Go back to the chit-chat section.

Yes I bought something I have no clue how to use 3 years ago after I bought my rebel xs. A friends husband had it and never used it. All of the pieces were still warped and taped it was brand new and cheap! Since my plan is to pursue this for the long run. I thought it would come in handy. Yes it can be connected with a sync cord. Last answer I'm going to use it for light.

Thanks Chuck. I've played with it some and know my off camera flash(and probably on camera as well) will trigger the slave function. But that's about the extinct of what I know about them( oh and the whole getup is heavy lol)
Right now I'm learning about using the different types of light and the effects that can be purposely produced with them. It is an older set up but I bought it brand new from a friends husband at what I thought was a good price. I will post more later this week.
