Well, I see from your avatar that you take a shot or two of 'planes yourself - 'Twisters' is an evening shot and suffers from a bit of graininess, and probably is not as sharp as I'd like. 'Sally B' is definitely not sharp but was improved a bit in PP. The BB Flight was dragged-back from silhouette oblivion in PP. The biggest problem I find with air shows is distance - even with an extender giving me 560mm, they are too far away at critical moments. The other problem is exposure - too easy to take silhouettes, even with spot metering. How do you manage?

As you say, air shows are difficult but I think you are too hard on yourself. My computer screen needs replacing so I may not see the things you do but to be honest if I took those pics I wouldn't be too umhappy.
I'm thinking of buying some extenders are they any good?
Cheers
Gerry

I've got the Canon 1.4 and use it with my 100-400mm lens but, as I said, still not enough for 'planes - or birds, really.I'm using a full frame camera which is not helping - if I had a cropped sensor the set-up would be more effective. Expect you know Canon also do a 2x extender, but it loses more light of course. Extenders can also cause a loss of auto focus, so be aware. I don't have experience of other extenders, but there are quite a few available - try one first if you can.

Well, thank you all for taking the time to comment and leave kind words - I rarely feel totally happy with my results, but that's not to say I don't enjoy my hobby! I expect we're all the same really.
