I'm thinking about buying this camera, body only and using a Novaflex adapter to use my Sony 18-250 A lens. Anybody have experience with a setup like this?

The Sony is built for a larger sensor, which should present no problem, except it will be the equivalent of a 13-179mm lens with crop factor adjustment.

What would the crop factor decrease? The GX7 is 4/3s and has a 2x factor.

The Sony lens is built for a larger sensor. As sensor size increases, crop factors decrease; conversely, as sensor size decreases, crop factor ibcreases. I calculated the actual lens size for, I believe, an APS-C and then applied the 50% actual size correction for a 2X crop factor.

Why, did I do it backwards - again?

Not familiar with the Sony lens. If it is a FF design it would have an angle of view equal to 36-500mm on a four thirds camera. The crop factor applies to the true FL of the lens.

I just got mine this week, and I'm still learning all its features. So far, I love it! With the in-body stabilization, I can use my old Leica lenses without the need for a tripod. Shot with a Canon 5D MkIII with 90 TS lens. ;)

One question...since the Sony lens doesn't have adjustable apertures, wouldn't you need two Novoflex adapters (i.e., one to adapt your Sony lens to Leica M mount. This adapter provides aperture control. And, a second adapter to convert from a Leica M to m4/3rds mount)? I don't see a single Novoflex adapter that will convert a Sony lens to a m4/3rds mount.

I have a 50mm Leica Summicron lens R Mount. Belongs to the film era. Can this lens be used with any modern digital camera, Panasonic probably?
Thanks for advice. This is a magnificent lens and I would hate to lose it.

Yes, the Leica R mount lens can be used with quite a few digital cameras with the proper adapter. Of course, focusing will be only manual. Here's a link to Novoflex's adapter finder:

By the way, I realized that my response to the original poster was incorrect. Only Sony Alpha lenses (for full frame cameras) can be adapted. The Sony 18-250 lens is for a cropped sensor camera, and I don't believe Novoflex makes an adapter for that lens to couple with m4/3rds cameras.

Thanks DavidT,
Does it mean that the Leica R mount cannot be fitted to any DSLR. I have a DSLR D300 body which I will try to utilize in some way.
Thanks again

It means Novoflex doesn't have an adapter for your Leica R lens to mount on a Nikon D300. Other companies might. For example, Leitax sells a replacement mount that would work, but it isn't a separate adapter. You would have to replace the Nikon bayonet mount with the Leitax mount, or find someone to do it for you.
