Don,t know if this will work or not this is called the plains of heaven locally in the Isle of Man I have not stored the original as it ,s 79 mb and i,m not sure what it would do to sites server?????

Did you mean 79 GB? If so just shrink it down a bit with the resize function of your photo software. Seeing it so small and not being able to blow it up doesn't do it justice.

post more soon,

Eric

Not sure how to process a pano like this one...guess I thought it would look more like a straight street. Comments and instructions are appreciated...!

That is called 'curvilinear distortion' and it is the bane of pano photography. Swede does a good job of tweaking photos like that but the best solution is to step back some if possible. The farther away you are from your subject the less noticeable it is. I think I'm swearing off indoor panos after my Philly trip. Sweep panos are even worse indoors.

I may just use regular wide angle for close subjects from now on.

Good pano though, I love cars, especially show cars.

John,

Great pano subject but (there always has to be a but), you need to crop the wall/post off of the left side and click the 'store original' box when posting so we can see your pano full size. Small panos are like appetizers, they make you want the Real Thing.

Post more but larger please,

Eric

HOw do you make a pano take on a reasonable size?
This is so long and skinny!

Try stacking photos vertically as well as horizontally. You could have included a bit more sky and/or foreground with that technique. You can also turn your camera to portrait orientation to give a little more 'headroom'.

This particular pano could be cropped to the inside of the outside trees on either end. That would make it a bit less long and then not look so skinny, relatively speaking.

It is still a pretty darn good pano.

Here's why I don't like sweep panos.

the first photo is a vertical sweep pano take with the camera in Landscape orientation.

The second photo was two Landscape photos taken vertically then stitched together.

Waaay less distortion in the second pic and I don't have a buch of extra sky either.

Same camera, different techniques taken seconds apart just for comparison.

What say you?

Eric

Gargle,

Nice looking pano, more please!

Thank youi very much Eric. I don't have any more to offer at the momemnt. There was one but I seem to have deleted it from my hard disc. I don't do many panoramas because withmy camera at least, the reduced quality.

I dont' have a panoramic camera or tripod attachment but I have a program called Panorama Maker V6 from Arcsoft which produced this image from two shots of the Arena at Nimes. I was amazed, just identified two files, program produced this almost instantly. Can barely see where it stitched at the center where one layer of stones are higher, which they are in real life.

Bill,

Your posts are a bit cryptic from time to time and I was just making sure I wasn't missing anything.

I do like the long running posts, I have an IR one too here:
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-3448-1.html

It is nice to see what others are doing with a certain format (pano) or technique (IR).

I have another thread where I am sending a hedgehog dog toy to UH members around the world but people starting getting nutty about the deal and I haven't heard from Hobo or Drifter Dan (a fellow hog who hitched a ride on the thread) in a while now. Guess I better type a 'where is and where have you been' post on that thread.

Norvick,

Don't be intimidated by special cameras or tripods etc.

Most of my early posts and some recent ones (including my latest pano) were just stitched together from handheld images.

I use Autostitch freeware and it too is dead simple to use.

Post more soon please. It is fun to travel the world from my desk.

Eric

ps here's an IR pano shot handheld, non-pano camera and stitched with Autostitch
